Eh, I dunno. I hear Jeff Goldblum going on about Chaos Theory... who knows what that could lead to, if the butterfly effect takes hold... :?

The problem is that we can't pretend to know exactly what would happen ... shrug.

Geoengineering -- popularly known as terraforming -- looks at global warming:http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/27/science/earth/27cool.html?ex=1151985600&en=ca9e39a26d7e4ece&ei=5065&partner=MYWAY.

I think when the advocates say their detractors "fear" their proposals, they mean ridicule, and I have to admit that I find some of their ideas ridiculous.

This is an older article, but I just came across it. Think you're above average? That doesn't bode well!http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=406

Note: all this reminded me of the Peter Principle. One of the posters makes reference to it, but it resulted from the studies of a UBC professor who realized that if you do good at your job, you will be rewarded with a promotion. If you do well at that job, another promotion. This continues until you reach a position you're not good at and there you stay. We are, Dr Peter said, promoted to our levels of incompetence.

For the record, he was studying education systems.

It bothers me that the scientists didn't believe all the reports just because they hadn't seen it themselves.

Yes, sadly, a lot of scientists prefer to limit the number of things to they take into account, rather than develop more sophisticated models.
