Your dad's best bet is to wait. Combined HD DVD and Blue Ray players will be coming out soon. That way you don't have to pick a format.

Advantage: Late adopters!

Seriously, late adopters get ALL the deals.

Early adopters get all the glitches and end up with Laser Disc players.

Even the 360. There's a new monster 360 coming out soon which will be the price of current systems. I'm thinking of picking that puppy up. And it's in black. :twisted:

Gamestop is offering a $250 trade in value for the Premium 360. So if you traded yours in toward the Elite version, you would only have to pony up $230. The only thing is you can't reserve it. You have to just be lucky enough to be there to get one.

Unrelated note, my band name in the Guitar Hero game is Bluddmask.

Anyone see the new PC game "Second Life?" It's a game where users can modify and add whatever they want, build stuff, make weapons, make entire islands.... I was playing it for hours yesterday - It's incredible.

LG already has one multi-player out (though it lacks a certain codec or something that makes it unable to have the HD-DVD logo on it.....it will only play the movie and you will have no access to the interactive menus or special features) for around $1200.

Samsung is coming out with one later this year.

I used to be a die-hard Playstation fan, but the XBOX 360 is just looking to be the better system. Like was mentioned, with PS losing all their exclusive games, you might as well pick the console with the best features. Wii is tempting, but very gimicky. The 360 just seems to be more solid and a better deal.

However, I can't begin to afford it. And your talk about a HD TV needed for better viewing makes me MORE nervous. But, perhaps, one day...

As for mp3 players, I use a Creative Zen 60GB mp3 player. Just so I'm not one of the crowd...but it's been working for me for three years now, and I've heard a lot of people going through iPods like underwear.

The only problem with the 360 is how often they break. Mine broke after a month and a half, and I barely play video games. They fixed it for free, but now it's acting funny sometimes, and I anticipate having to have it fixed AGAIN in the future.

Never had a problem with mine, but I've heard of them. It does make the system seem unreliable. I still love the 360, but that is a valid complaint.
