Hear me out on this. The difference between Roderick Kingsley and Norman Osborn is that Roddy is 100% sane. His sanity made him dangerous -- a killer instinct with the mind to execute. Norman was a crazy, amnesiac nut, which made him dangerous in a different way. When Marvel brought back Norman at the end of the Clone Saga (a retcon that still makes no sense), somebody didn't read up on back issues, because suddenly Norman Osborn was Roderick Kingsley!
The Norman Osborn in today's comics is essentially Roderick Kingsley with a shitty haircut -- cold, calculating, and seemingly devoid of his most noticeable character trait, his fragile mind. This makes Roderick, and thus the Hobgoblin, redundant and unnecessary.
And I hate it.
I agree. The fact that Norman continues to act like he's all sane in the head pisses me off. That's why I loved Ennis's version of him in T-Bolts. All it take's is some work and he'll crack.
However the fact that it still means he got away with his crimes aways puts a smile on my face. And the fact that he hasn't even appeared in ten years and STILL to this day Betty Brant still carries guns, shotguns, and looks to weapons just for the fear that one day he'll return.
But honestly Betty.. you should know better.. as I will soon post. In the meantime Cat have your other goblin:
