I ended up getting the Skull Candy ones for $30. They're pretty good, but I gotta get used to shoving them in my ears.

Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. the stock ipod headphones are not very good. $15 won't get you very far.

the sennheiser cx-300 is decent, but a little muddy and bass heavy to my ears. they are excellent for their price range though.

what studio headphones do you use? i'd recommend saving your money and aim to have one very nice pair of reasonably accurate headphones that you can use at home and one pair of in-ear monitors that have nice sound isolation for portable use.

if you have an idea of the sound you're looking, try looking at the frequency response curves of some nice headphones and test the ones that interest you in a store if you can:

i should also mention the creative ep-630 is pretty much a repackaged version of the sennheiser cx-300, with the main differences being cosmetic. the more recent creative ep-830 is included with the new zen x-fi line of mp3 players if you want to go down that route and get two upgrades in one.

personally, the best headphones i've ever heard are the sennheiser hd-595.

I've got a nice set of 100 dollar Creative headphones I use for audio recording. What I wanted was a decent set of earbuds to use at work and in bed befores I go ti sleep. The Skull Candy ones are pretty nice so far - I can hear a lot of details when I shove em in good. :)
