The Eternals

Postby Kent Horton » Sat Feb 14, 2009 6:18 pm

Is the Eternals canceled? #8's next issue blurb calls #9 "the final chapter," and there's no solicit for April, but the solicit for #9 doesn't say final issue. Is this another case of Marvel canceling a series "silently?"

Crap! I don't know, but I hope not. I'm enjoying the series so far.

Meh, the Eternals are a nice concept and all but I don't know if they have enough of a "cool" factor to demand their own book.

Except if Kirby does it.

Gaiman did a pretty good job until he had to throw all that Civil War b.s. into the mix.

How is this series? I've read the original Kirby stuff, I've read the Gaiman mini, and I've read some of the Thor stuff and enjoyed it all. Is there a chance I'd like this?

The current series sucks, to be perfectly honest. The art was great when Acuna was doing it, and the Annual was cool, but the current arc's artists are shit and the book is in the toilet. If Acuna doesn't come back, I'm dropping this.

#8 is the final chapter of the current arc, so maybe tha's what they mean?

Then again, I just checked Marvel's website, and the book isn't scheduled for May either. I think it's been stealth cancelled ...

I've been enjoying it a great deal.

Any series were we find out more about the Celestials can't be all bad in my book. The annual was one of the best books I've read in awhile.

Yeah, having to work Iron Man into the mini just felt off to me. I wish they could have just left it unconnected to the main event.

Wonder how that'll hurt Marvel's chances of getting Neil to do anymore work for them?

Who says that wasn't Gaiman's idea?

No impact at all. He wrote his story and then handed it off to Marvel. What they do with it is their business decision. Downside of doing work for company own characters.

That skip month probably didn't help sales, but I agree with others, the new art stinks. Also, I have to admit that I'm not all that thrilled with Gaimen's redo of The Eternals. It really does strike me that few if any can handle the Kirby properties from the 70s well, more so when one of the greatest writers in English language comics can't make it work.
