Batman Eternal #1 Preview (UPDATED)

The start of the Bat-story so big it’s going to take every week of the month to tell!

The DC solicit teases:

A massive cast of Gotham City’s best (and worst) examines the relationship between Batman, his allies and his city. In this debut issue, Commissioner James Gordon is caught on the wrong side of the law !

I gave #1 a shot, but there was nothing in there that left me feeling like I need to spend money on this book every week for the next year. I just don't get the need to reboot the present if we're already going to jump to the future - especially considering it's a future that isn't really going to happen because the storyline will wrap up in 52 weeks time and presumably we aren't going to get a "5 Years Later" intro to every book following that.
