For a long while, I thought Jeff Loeb and Tim Sale were the definitive Batman-team. But after 26 issues, to me it doesn't get any better than Greg Capullo and Scott Snyder. They've crafted a run of Batman that has enriched the character while growing him and adding struggle to his life, while also giving us a great, epic stories. I'll be sad when it's over.

As an side, thanks for always doing the DC previews IvCNuB4. These threads (and Punchy's reviews) are usually the only places uncluttered with the usual anti-DC stuff.

I dropped this title after "Death of the Family" because I wasn't interested in another origin story for Batman. In retrospect, I have heard some really good reviews of this arc so I am curious if this will be worth my time to collect when it is released in trade. Is it more than just another origin story?

It's not really an origin story, per se. It's not about how he becomes Batman, but instead it's what he does to become Batman and about what happened during his first year as Batman. There's no Crime Alley murder scene to kick things off or years spent abroad learning how to fight. The first three issues do kind of deal with the concept of him developing the Batman-persona, but that's about as origin storyish as it gets.

So, it's kinda like an extra story that takes place around the same time as Batman Year One?

Yeah, pretty much although I don't think there are any acknowledgments of Year One itself..

It may be awesome, but no way do I shell out eight dollars for a comic.

This is only $3.99. Last week's Detective Comics #27 mega-sized issue was $7.99
