@Oni2030...I do preliminary sketches on typing paper just to see how big I want the figure to be...and to see what type of pose I can use. I draw the figure on the canvas with pencil...making alot of corrections in the process. I have to step back from the canvas alot to see if everything is proportional. Working on a big canvas...it is easy to make things way out of proportion.
I do paint in layers, always painting a "base color", so that when I do the shadows, highlights, and details...I am not painting directly on white, bare canvas.
I sometimes look at fabric or metal, to see how light reflects off of it...but alot of the time, I simply guess. I am sure if someone really disects my work, they will find spots where the shadows of highlights don't make sense based on the "light source"...but that is ok.
I really appreciate the feedback. Hopefully i can put the kids to bed early and get this one done this week.
