so I would say I'm a diehard fan of the original series (and the end of eva movie death/rebirth can suck my balls) anyway I finally watched the second of the "rebuild" movies 2.22 you can (not) advance it took me a while to finally watch because I hated the first rebuild movie mainly due to the fact that it just seemed like I was re-watching the same thing that I had already seen before there wasn't much new here at all. But that is not the case with the 2nd movie my god it's F'ing awesome it takes everything that I loved about the series and condenses it into a pretty amazing film. The action scene are incredible (the opening scene grabs you right away),the animation is fantastic and the ending ??? holy fuck I cannot wait for the third and forth movies (nothing coming out till Fall 2012 in japan)
if you've never seen eva these rebuilds are perfect and somehow if you're a diehard like me it's also perfect in fact there's a theory that these movies are acutally sequels and not remakes but I won't get into that
anyone else a fan here ? I feel like this may have been brought up before

oh end of Eva was very weird but it was a perfect way to end the show

I heard he ran out of money and that was the main reason for it.

I didn't like the ending at all and it really turned me off to the series. It was like a Square Enix movie.

cuz they're totally different (also different resolutions imo)

I enjoyed the original series, but have never watched the films. I'll wait until they're all out.

It was a great series, but also, it was the Twin Peaks of anime as well.

It has inspired anime shows a good deal since, both in style and story telling.

The recent (and continuing) Rinne no Lagrange is one of those shows.

It's open to interpretation. I believe they're the same, Shinji tries and then choses the other option.

When I read that the ending of Teen Titans was compared to Evangelion, I lol'd hard.

Shinji accepts the human instrumentality project in the show and he rejects it in the movie. that also leads to the theory that the rebuilds are sequels to Eoe, when they say "rebuilds" it's a literal term the world of eva in these new films is a rebuilt earth that's why there are similarities to the show but also new twists
the 1st film gives a few clues
they show the moon having what appears to be a huge blood stain/ perhaps lcl stain on the surfaces this would match perfectly to what happened when angel Rei bled all over the moon in eoe. Secondly when Kaoru shows up in the last scene with what appear to be 5 coffins next to him:"This time I'll definitely make you happy shinji" again at this point in the movie series they haven't met so I think this is a fairly strong clue as to what's going on and here again this follows with the idea that this is a do over.
the second has a few more call backs like shiji trying to destroy the geofront by stomping on it (in eoe this was in his mind he was boy stomping on it) in the film he does it in eva unit 01 that's fairly minor but something that does stick out.I think the most telling sign in the 2nd film is Seele's logo it's changed slightly ..what did they add? a serpent biting it's tail..that's ouroboros a symbol of something reaping infinitely. Obviously this is all speculation but it's fairly interesting to talk about
