Avengers ARE superheroes.

Do you think Wolverine was offered membership because of his previous tenure as a hero, or just because Cap and Tony flipped a fuckin' coin?

His performance as a hero informs the decision to offer him Avengers membership. Which is the case with many Avengers. And then, there are Avengers who had long careers as heroes before ever becoming involved with the Avengers.

In other words, no Avengers exists in a vacuum.
