Take the present one, fix the boots, add a bit of yellow to the belt and it looks better. IMO.

Dont stop there, the collar has to be opened up like Cavill's and they need to loose the fucking armor texture. All I see when I look at Lee's Nu designs is What If Iron Man was the tailor for the DCU?

BTW, even sculpts based on Morales "work" suck ass. My two most hated fucking stooges at the helm of one of my favorite characters. :smt011

C'mon Hollywood, Daddy needs another reboot!

I don't mind the collar, as for the armor, I ignore that aspect and view those lines as seems on a high tech piece of clothing. Toning down the armor qualities helps it a lot I think. I also like the cape with that point.

I also sort of like the new movie costume. They got the boots right (that cleft boot has always screamed Superman to me, despite being based on an old military style) plus the symbol looks a bit retro to me. The cell design does not work for me though. Hollywood keeps wanting to repeat symbol patterns on costumes such as with Superman, Spider-Man and Star Trek and ultimately for myself, it leaves me thinking of pajamas or football jerseys.

There is no such thing as a well designed Jim Lee costume.

Well you should. :smt013

I'm all for getting rid of the shorts, it makes him too open to ridicule but the open collar/cape attachment is way too iconic to mess around with. Lee's design makes Superman look like an uptight aristocrat and that's not Superman to me. All he needs are some pouches and he'd be Imageman!

Cavill's collar/cape attachment screams Superman so much that I don't mind anything else. I feel the same way about the boots too, that cleft is mandatory. As far as the texture goes, what are ya gonna do? Spandex looks cheap and it's shiny, I think they need texture to break up the "shine" so other tight fabrics don't look like spandex. :smt102

The film costume still does nothing for me. It just doesn't say "guy who lifts heavy things and punches through walls." It just looks generic.

"Uptight aristocrat" may be the best description yet for Lee's costume. It really doesn't fit a guy who at heart is (at least back in the day) is a Kansas farm boy.

The shorts just add a level of athleticism to the uni. They help say Supes relies more on physical strength than things like mental powers.

I also sort of like the new movie costume. The texture doesn't bother me. It looks more like modern-day Under Armour or Nike Pro Combat than spandex. It would make sense Supes would need something a little more durable.

Lee's design for the Superman-2 costume is good.

Only because the original Superman look is so iconic, anything else is deemed inferior.

Once you see him lift heavy things and punch through walls on screen, that will change.

I've been living with comic "version" of this suit with Supes lifting heavy things and punching walls. It hasn't changed my mind.

The problem is that all the uni design is all in the chest and shoulder area. The shield and cape are the focus, obviously. But they aren't elements that can carry a uni on their own. The bottom half just seems like an after-thought, if there was any thought given into it.

Batman can get away with something like that, because the cowl is such a attention-grabbing element that everything else becomes secondary.

Cap is similar, because of the mask, star, stripes and chain mail combine to make an iconic costume. The "buccaneer" style books balance the uni out at the bottom.
