Bruce Timm Steps Down as DC Animated Producer

The guiding force behind DC Comics animated movies and animation, Bruce Timm, is stepping down from the position.

Source: VFK EXCLUSIVE – DC TOONIVERSE: Bruce Timm Steps Down

The times are a moving. For over twenty years Bruce Timm has been one of  the guiding forces behind the DC Animated program (with over countless animated movies and television shows of course most notably being Batman: The Animated Series). Voices from Krypton are reporting this and the reasons as to why he's make this descion:  to focus on his own creative projects.

James Tucker, one of the creative minds behind Legion of Superheroes and Batman: The Brave and the Bold will be taking Timm's role. The first animated movie that'll be under his wing will be Superman: Unbound with Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (an adaptation of the Flash centric story that rebooted the DCU into the "new 52") being the next animated movie project on his plate.

Regardless one has to tip the hat Mr. Timm for the legacy and impact he's had on the industry when he was apart of the animated series that started it all, Batman.

This doesn't bode well for Vertigo.

Co-signed.

Next thing you know, they'll be trotting out the piss-poor DCnU versions of the characters in those animated series.

Dear Disney,

Get a dump truck fill it with gold bars and drive it to Bruce Timm's house.

I would be most happy if you did.

Dear Hasbro. Ditto given you're airing half his previous projects. :P

If the rumors of Disney buying Hasbro turn out to be true, maybe he could do both.

That's too bad but I look forward to what he does next.

Batman Brave and the Bold was really good so I'm not too worried about DC Animated.

Honestly, I think the DCAU already died. The DVD's as of late have been lackluster, DKR aside, and they can't seem to keep a series going...

That last is not his fault. The former...probably only in part. It felt to me like they were as a whole phoning it in, especially with JL: Doom.

The good news was that Tucker plans to go beyond the Superman/Batman/Justice League paradigm and introduce more characters in the DVDs, and use original stories rather than book adaptations.

Maybe a fresh look and new energy is what the DCAU needs. Timm did a great job, but it seemed he was losing his zest for that job. Whatever he plans, I'd assume he'll attack it with new energy and enthusiasm.
