Bryan Singer Announces Next X-Men Movie?

The director seemingly announced X-Men: Apocalypse to be released in 2016.

Source: Twitter

This tweet just popped up in Bryan Singer's feed:

We're still waiting on confirmation, but it appears that we'll be getting a new X-Men movie in two years, featuring Apocalypse as the next bad guy.  We'll update as we get more news.

"Age of Apocalypse" to counter "Age of Ultron"?

I skipped The Wolverine while it was in theaters and I am not as excited about Days of Future Past as I thought I would be but damn if this announcement doesn't intrigue me! I hope that this means what it implies because if DoFP can fix the mistakes that were made in X3, an X-Men movie feature Apocalypse would really raise the stakes of the X-Men Cinematic Universe.

So long as Origins Wolverine is not canon and the damage done by Last Stand is fixed I will be okay with this development.

If this is the First Class era X-Men, I'm really excited about it.

If this is Halle Berry as Storm, Shawn Ashmore as Iceman, Kelsey Grammar as Beast and Rogue-- no, she was "cured"... Cyclops was killed offscreen... Wolverine killed Jean... um... yeah.

I REALLY hope it's a First Class movie.

Two things that I hope are fixed by DoFP.

This could also be an opportunity to get different actors to play Cyke and/or Jean, depending if either wants to return to their respective roles for future movies.

Visually, an Age of Apocalypse movie (as SuperHeroHype surmises) could be quite a treat. And with time travel being used in DoFP, there's precedence for it. But I wonder if two consecutive films using time travel, when the franchise is more about prejudice and superpowers, might tax some audience's willing suspension of disbelief.

The second one doesn't have to be about time travel. It could be something happens in DOFP and the Age of Apocalypse occurs because of it.

Apparently Exhibitor Relations (A box office company) tweeted this as well:

No stopping the X-Men franchise. Fox's X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will drop May 27, 2016.

This. Maybe Wolverine stabs time again and causes the Age of Apocalypse in the X-Men Cinematic Universe. :smt102

So basically we're just going with the Wolverine and the X-men cartoon seasons now? I'm alright with that.

I would personally go for DOFP retconning Brett Ratner ever directing the film better yet.

Let's keep in mind, there've been no solid indications that it's going to be about "Age of Apocalypse", but it's the one everyone jumps to because it was such a huge deal at the time. It could just be Apocalypse as the main villain, with no alteration or disruption of the space/time continuum.
