Christopher Nolan Releases Statement About Aurora Tragedy

Christopher Nolan Releases Statement About Aurora TragedyThe director of The Dark Knight Rises expresses his dismay over what happened last night in Colorado

Source: Christopher Nolan Speaks About Tragedy

Deadline Hollywood is running The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan's statement concerning the tragedy that occurred in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.  The statement reads as follows:
Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community. I would not presume to  know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime. The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me. Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families.

Twelve people were killed and over two dozen more were injured when a gunman opened fire during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises.  The showing was on opening night of the film.

So they don't check for weapons or anything like that before going to a theater?

I have never EVER seen theaters that do weapons screenings in Australia or Europe. I assume the US is no different.

Even if they did (and they don't) the guy apparently bought a ticket while unarmed. He entered the theatre and after propping the exit door open left to get his weapons.

I just got back from a showing and a few local police officers were there in the lobby and in the threatre while we entered. On the way out afterwards I stopped to shake one's hand, said "Thank you" and went on my way.

From everything that's been reported he came in through the fire exit. :smt102
