Why? The Avengers are a new movie property and a pretty original idea for a big screen movie. I'm pretty sure hollywood would never produce Avengers 357 the return of Kang!

It's been fascinating having this debate again, I must leave now, because I am off to see the Avengers film. Suck on those eggs baldy.

the reason they're more popular than ever is actually lots of reasons. sure, licensing agreements help, but those have been in place for decades. you now have adults who grew up loving thems as kids who now can see them done justice (and treated respectfully) on the big screen, kids who can discover them via multiple video games and cartoons (and movies), a growing "geek culture" which has now made it less "uncool" to actually be seen in a Captain America t-shirt or reading a Flash comic book, etc etc.

but you're dead wrong here: Batman and Sherlock Holmes ARE better characters than Tarzan and Zorro. Fact.

also, fuck you. just because. stupid foreigners with their stupid early Avengers showings.... :smt013

are you familiar with Hollywood AT ALL? they're currently working on Die Hard 5, a 4th Spider-man movie, a 6th Superman movie, a 7th Batman movie (8th if you count Adam West), they're re-releasing all the Star Wars movies just to grab some 3-D money....if Avengers keeps selling tickets, they'll keep making them.

I for one am glad that Mike Mignola 'turned his back' from ever working for DC or Marvel.

Thank Grodd these recent covers were'nt drawn by him.

Mark Millar never would've been the "name" he is today without all the work he did for Marvel and DC in the 90's and early 2000's. It enabled him to turn that popularity towards his own stuff. But I don't know how much creative integrity he can really have when everything he writes anymore (even the good stuff) is basically just a movie pitch.

Gotta give it to him though.. I enjoyed Superior and Nemesis, and the current crop of books are good as well.

Robert Kirkman didn't turn his back on the Big 2. He had no choice. He couldn't cut it at Marvel. Have you actually read his Marvel books? They were horrible, and I don't think sold for shit. Considering all the game he talked for YEARS about wanting to write Ultimate Spider-Man after Bendis left, if Bendis ever left that is.. you honestly don't think he would jump at the chance if allowed? It was laughable of him to pull the whole "creator-owned comics are the way to go!" angle only after he fell flat on his face at his Marvel attempt.

Well in Mike's defense, you don't say no to a raccoon with a gun.

Mike Mignola sucked at Marvel anyway.

Also, I'm glad Mark Waid turned his back on the Big 2.

I think there's a difference between being dependent on work from the Big Two to make a living and choosing to supplement your income with work from the Big Two.

I wasn't impressed with Kick Ass 1

I won't say it was bad, but I honestly don't think anything he has done since Ultimates 1 has been nearly as good.

Didn't try superior though.

Kick Ass the movie was great though.
