Yeah. You think people would just shut up as usually it's just people voicing their own displeasure rather than anything of substance.

That said, even though I don't like current DC, I don't think Didio would be leaving anytime soon. It's possible but not likely.

They're definitely not losing any money. Personally, I think any EiC should have a limited term of no more than 6 years to avoid the risk of stagnation. I think JoeQ and Didio seem to both be running on fumes creatively, but they're both making money for their company so it doesn't matter.

I think so.

i think the one thing that is hurting DC right now is how successful Marvel is so if the higher-ups want to directly rival Marvel's success, they may look to replace Didio or even Paul Levitiz but I think DC is comfortable where they are.

That has to be because of the films, right? The Dark Knight comes out in a month, that should generate some momentum for DC. But the wind does seem to be in Marvel's sails at the moment.

Yeah but I think that's an uphill battle as Marvel has had many films come out recently compared to DC and Marvel is creating a shared universe with their films at the moment. It should be interesting if DC gets their act together with their films.

Marvel is going to be more "successful" than DC (if by successful you mean Diamond orders) pretty generally, I think.

1) Marvel HAS to be. They're a publicly traded company, on their own essentially.

2) Marvel has certain franchises (X-Men, Spider-Man) that are always going to be successful, and appeal to a wide range of readers. Also, the more down to Earth nature of Marvel as a milieu probably helps.

All that being said, DC Comics is part of a massive multi-national entertainment conglomerate. What T-W wants out of DC is some profit on the comics side, and the ability to make more cash on licensing DC property.

From a business perspective (as opposed to a msg board fanboy perspective) if DC is managing to bring in some money with individual issues, trades, HCs, and the rest, then it's gravy. How they match up to Marvel, I shouldn't think, is much of a concern to the board members of Time Warner.

Exactly. It's not so much that no one thinks it will happen, or even might or should happen.

There's just no evidence that it will, just unsubstantiated "rumors", some disappointed fans, fans who care a lot more about sales figures than they have any reason to, and a disgruntled ex-employee who isn't even naming names.

Well, my argument has always been that T-W doesn't care about ANY of the stuff we talk about on msg boards or blogs.

The see some numbers on a bottom line after a '$' and that's what matters. Plus, of course (and more to the point) licensing potential.

One of the points that blog tried to make was the various reactions to FC #1. Now, does ANYONE really believe that there's some T-W board member reading about continuity problems between Countdown and FC #1? Really?

It's just absurd.
