My Scottish friends especially enjoyed the jabs the Doctor had at the English. :|

Yeah, I loved the glimpse into their life. Some people are calling the start of the episode slow but I really enjoyed just spending some time with the Victorian England posse.

Not every mysterious new character has to be some time lord or old character brought back.

The one thing Doctor Who desperately needs is to create some new iconic characters and villains rather than focusing on daleks so much.

Weeping Angels were a great step in the right direction, but they've become overused too now.
