It did look like what I imagine the remote control for a bomb looks like.

Point of clarification - do memes count as tropes?

If so, Jude should threadkick himself because of that tired thread title.

Years ago when we painted the exterior of our in-laws house, the cat had gotten outside because someone left the back door open. I noticed paw prints leading around the front of the house, down the sidewalk, through the back door, up the hallway, and on to the bed. There she was freaking out with drying light blue paint all over her. She walked around shaking her paws for a week.

You know what I hate about the trope site? It went too far.
EVERYTHING is a trope now even with the flimsiest of reasoning.

"We also didn't invent the notion of finding and cataloging as many tropes as humanly possible or the idea of all media being formed around the same set of core tropes. I'm going to rule that posting quotes from TVTropes is just as bad as linking to them, so I'm going to have to ask you to stop that lest I report you for troping in a no trope zone.

Yes, patterns do exist, but a lot of those pages see similarities in things that are big time stretches.

And that would be incorrect, since I am not performing "the act of hyperlinking text in an argument with a link to a web page on the site TVTropes.org". You should have thought more deeply about that rule before you made it in the first place.

It is an intentional attempt to get around the rules on a technicality. That won't be permissible in this thread. This is serious business. No troping.

Man's got himself a point, Jude. You took it upon yourself to specifically define troping, I'm going to have to rule that since copy/pasting isn't mentioned in your definition, it doesn't count as troping.
It DOES however constitute plagairism, lacking any citations, I suppose....

Those "stretches" that actually don't work at all generally get corrected in due time.
(It's Wiki Magic; we don't have to explain it!)
Others can be considered a natural outgrowth of the tropes in question, as creators attempt to play with the patterns and thus, the audience's expectations.
