Rick McCallum is leaving Lucasfilm to focus on ruining independent films of his own.
Source: StarWars.com Rick McCallum, a Lucas collaborator and producer on the reviled Star Wars Prequels as well as the special edition releases of the Original Trilogy, which saw the classic movies ruined by senseless edits like Greedo shooting first, has announced this weekend that he is leaving Lucasfilm to focus on his own work. Fans, who have long considered Lucas and McCallum's updates to the star Wars legacy as "vast improvements," if "vast improvements" can be taken to mean unforgivable attrocities, will certainly miss the Young Indiana Jones producer.
In an interview on Star Wars dot com, McCallum said his tearful goodbyes to the Universe that helping to ruin made him famous.
When asked to make a hyperbolic statement about Kathleen Kennedy taking over Star Wars:
There's only person in the world who could do this, and that's Kathleen Kennedy.
About whether Kennedy is an immortal who will live forever:
The Star Wars saga will always be taken care of under her leadership.
Asked to name the three most absurdly boring movie concepts an insanely rich ex-Star-Wars-producer could work on once free to indulge his ego with no regard for financial consequences:
I have a Russian film about the Babi Yar Massacre in development that is being directed by Sergei Loznitsa. I am also working with Tomás Masín on a Czech story about two brothers who escaped Czechoslovakia during the Cold War while being chased by 28,000 Soviet soldiers in what is still the largest manhunt in history. I'm also working on a film with David Oyelowo and developing a film with Laurence Bowen about the Boy Soldiers of Sierra Leone.
Stay tuned to The Outhouse for updates on Star Wars once each week or whenever something happens, depending on which is likely to net us more unique hits.
