So Far I'm Not Impressed With EA Games

Postby Benderbrau » Tue Jan 05, 2010 2:16 am

Last week I bought Need for Speed Nitro. I like the game. No bells and whistles. Just fun arcade racing.

Now to the problem: it freezes up when loading between races about twice every hour. You can't reset it. Ejecting the CD does nothing. You have to completely shut off the Wii and power it back on every time, boot the Wii back to the main menu, select the game, let it do it's little stupid ass intro, let t do it's stupid ass little warning aout how racing is bad and you shouldn't do it and then back in the game again. Play for a little while until it freezes up again.

I'm trying to get support from EA but when you go to their website and click on Customer Support you get this lame fucking ass search engine thing that you are supposed to input your problem into. So I input "need for speed nitro". At which point it tells me that the seach has ignored common words like "need" and "for". This of course means that the remaining search words produce all kinds of useless results. WTF?? It's your own fucking game EA!! You ignore the titles of your own games?? There's no sign of a phone number anywhere. But I do find a chat function. The chat session says I am next in queue and my wait time is approximately 8 seconds. It's been saying that for 16 minutes now.

EA does some good stuff, but their games on the Wii have been mostly cash-ins. I have a friend who's worked there for years, and he says that outside of a select few games, everything else is just phoned in (always the case if it's a licensed property).

Wow!

I waited half an hour....for this????
-----------------------------------------------
EARepAustin: Hi, my name is EARepAustin. How may I help you?
Benderbrau: Hi. I recently purchased Need for Speed Nitro. And it routinely freezes between races and I have to reboot my Wii console everytime it does.
EARepAustin: I am sorry to hear it
EARepAustin: May I know which platform you are playing the game
Benderbrau: I just said that in my previous post.
Benderbrau: The Wii
Benderbrau: It's actually the only console that the game is available for.
EARepAustin: If your game freezes during the initial loading period, follow the instructions below for some possible solutions.

First, delete the save data.

From the Wii main menu, select Wii Options.
Select Data Management.
Select Save Data.
Select Wii.
Select the EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis data, then Erase, then Confirm.
Next, set the proper screen resolution.

From the Wii main menu, select Wii Options.
Select Wii Settings.
Select Screen, then TV Resolution.
Depending on your television, select EDTV or HDTV (480p), then Confirm.
This should solve most issues with freezing during the initial loading period.

Benderbrau: This is not about EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis, nor is it about the initial load period. This is between races. One could be playing the game for an hour and then it just freezes.
EARepAustin: I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.
EARepAustin: I'm escalating your issue to our senior support for further investigation.
EARepAustin: You will be contacted through email with in 24 hours with the solution to your problem.
EARepAustin: Take care
EARepAustin has disconnected.

The funny thing is EA has in the past year been focusing on getting better. Less crappy movie tie games and more original new projects like Dead Space.

Doesn't change the issue that company of their size is bound to produce more turds than a smaller one like Valve.

Nitro epitomizes the phrase "It's great....when it actually works"

Actually, I recently read (Kotaku? Joystiq?) that due to sales being down, EA decided to scrap the whole quality original games thing and go back to doing shitty movie tie in games.

Well that sucks. Hopefully they just churn out the tie in shit to fund the good stuff. As long as they don't screw with BioWare I'll be giving them money.

EA just agreed to keep the Tiger Woods partnership for their golf game.

Motherfuckers.
