Majestic is my favorite of the Superman knockoffs for sure. He is what Superman should aspire to be.

I don't mean that exactly but when he was on Squadron Supreme, he almost had the same origin as Superman which I found corny. At least when they had King Hyperion, this was a guy you could take seriously as a character-plus I loved the fact that he ended up being one of the Exile's main enemies until those other Hyperions ended up kicking his ass.

Exactly what I was saying. Again I love the interraction that they both had when Maj was stranded in the DC Universe at that diner.

Plutonian is just alright but I really like his comic.

Exactly. Although I don't follow the Plutonian that closely, I agree with what you said about Gladiator. Again it sucks that the writers just use him as a yardstick for other characters to beatdown. For example, that idiotic encounter with him and Cannonball or him getting his handed to him by the Hulk in the 97 annual.

I loved the Alan Moore written version. Just a great take on the old Superman mythos.

Icon

Great blend of Martian Manhunter and Superman with something new. Deserves more exposure.

Mr.Majestic
Image
Interesting re-take on Superman if he had been around since the golden age of Greek culture and was a breed warlord.

Mon-El
Image
Superman's little brother... sort of...

Martian Manhunter
Image
The other alien survivor on Earth.

Victor
Image
Interesting knockoff with possibilities never reached.

The High (original version)
Image
Truly if Superman was a total bastard.

Apollo (original version)
Image
Gay Superman was a cool Superman. I liked the fact that he was a nice guy that could rip your head off.

Hyperion
Image
I liked that they ultimately made him an Eternal or at the least, long suggested it.

Hyperion (Supreme Power)
Image
Victor taken to that possiblity.

Gladiator
Image
Superman being an Imperial... Super Stormtrooper.. LoSH style.. via Marvel.

The Sentry
Image
The insane moron Superman. Pure chaos waiting to happen.

I don't think of Captain Marvel or similar characters like Marvel Man/Miracle Man and Mighty Man as Superman knockoffs. The others are more similar to Superman, IMO, then not.

Is it really a knock-off if it's cooler than the original?

Well, the entire idea behind the Squadron Supreme was to show The Avengers vs the Justice League without, of course, being able to actually show the Justice League, so of course his origin was similar to Superman's.

Didn't really follow Mon-El that much although ironically Gladiator is based off Mon El coincidentally.

Sorry, but Gladiator was always based off of Superboy (his real name is even Kallark).

BTW, of all the characters mentioned so far, I'd say my favourites would be a toss up between Icon and Hyperion.
