Fox confirms X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Postby Chris » Fri Jul 27, 2012 8:48 pm

Suck it, LOLTRON.

Twentieth Century Fox C.I.S. have reportedly confirmed that the sequel to X-Men First Class will be titled X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Our Russian comrades over at Stark Industries have obtained information which may have revealed the title of Matthew Vaughn's X-Men followup. Russian News site Film Business Today states that the sequel will be lifted from the pages of Marvel comic books and will be called X-Men: Days of Future Past. Fox envisioned X-Men: First Class as the first film of a new trilogy. Simon Kinberg, who co-wrote X-Men: The Last Stand and co-produced X-Men: First Class, is writing the sequel, along with Vaughn and his longtime collaborator, Jane Goldman. Bryan Singer will return as producer on the film, which is set to begin filming in January 2013, after Jennifer Lawrence has finished shooting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The sequel for First Class is scheduled for a release on July 18, 2014.

That sounds super-cool. One of my all time favorite comic book stories. Now it's been riffed off of a hundred times, but it was so ballsy at the time it came out.

No it isn't. It's a Russian News site saying that, not Fox. It's probably true, just like it was probably true in June. But it's still a rumor. All that other information is known stuff that has been true regardless of title.

It's been a slow news week.

There's nothing on Twentieth Century Fox's site about this.
When you do a search about this every single hit so far just refers back to that same Russian website

just like there was nothing about Guardians of the Galaxy on Marvel's site when it was leaked how many months ago?? we knew about Guardians of the Galaxy happening long before Marvel actually officially announced it.

And while it's possible that the story is true, it's also nothing new, nor is there any evidence this is the same situation as the Guardians scenario. It is just as, if not more, likely that it's more like the British tabloids, who are widely known for making up movie rumors out of whole cloth. Especially as far as James Bond movies are concerned. :)

well the fact that Fox bought the domain names for days of future past, kind of adds crediblity to this story...

How's Bryan Singer for ya?

Asked about the First Class sequel, Bryan Singer told IGN,

Bryan Singer: I can say it’s being written right now and it will start shooting in a few months. It’s going to be very ambitious. It’s called Days of Future Past and it deals with aspects of that comic but also some very new things. I just don’t want to give any of it away. Matthew Vaughn will be directing and I’m totally excited about it.

That’s good, but this is better:

I think there’s a strong desire to broaden out the universe. The X-Men universe on its own is every bit as big as the Marvel universe and I think it’s time to reach out and explore it and perhaps even bring some connectivity between the films, as Marvel’s done so well. You may see some of that, I don’t know. [Laughs]
