Those rumors were worrying me for a while.
It would be hard to have to cheer for a guy you spent so much time hating.
On the other hand A-Rod would no longer be the most hated Yankee, until the playoffs when Manny leads you to a World Series with 12 playoff HRs.

Unless Manny decides he's not happy with the contract he negotiated himself and starts faking knee injuries

Also possible.
I still like to blame Boras. That guy is such a fucking tool.

What I'm wondering is what are the Dodgers going to do to replace Derek Lowe and Greg maddux in the rotation?
Don't get me wrong, I think Billingsly, Kershaw and Kuroda are pretty good, but there's not a lot of experience there.

Yeah I don't think they've made any good moves to replace guys they are going to be missing. I think they are too focused on Manny. After rejecting their two offers they should have settled for Dunn or whomever and looked for a good pitcher or two to fill in the rotation. Instead they are going to over pay for Manny even though no one else is bidding on him.

James McDonald and Scott Elbert have been mentioned.
As is Jason Schmidt.

I think ownership is in a tough spot with Manny. I don't think signing him is a very smart move, but the fans seem to have their hearts set on him.
But yeah, for the money they'd spend on Manny, they could fill multiple holes on the team. Dunn, Abreu, Griffy.....any of these guys could be had at a discount right now and would benefit the team.
They could snag Ben Sheets and Bobby Abreu for probably less than they'd pay Manny.

$25 million for a motivated Manny is a bargain.
Of course that's the issue. A Manny who is sulking about not getting enough money is a potential disaster. But I think they're playing this perfectly right now (though it could backfire really badly.)

That's the issue, really.
Manny is going to have to bring his expectations down, and you have to wonder how he's going to react to settling for less than he wanted.

The man was electric last season. He was something not seen in these parts for....maybe ever. Not even Piazza had the impact.
And I don't see Dunn really succeeding in Dodger Stadium.

That's how I see it. Like Allen said, I know a lot of fans want Manny, but at that price when no one is offering anything close to that is ridiculous. Both of the offers were more than fair. They should just move on and get someone else. Manny is a great offensive player, but he's 36 and his skills will erode sooner rather than later. They should go get a cheaper, younger, less risky guy and some pitchers.

Part of me wonders what happens to Dunn's power when he moves out of the bandbox that is Cincinnati.

It will drop quite a bit. I'm not a big fan of Dunn, but I think he'd be OK on the Dodgers. I think him or Abreu would be fine.

I'm surprised the Orioles haven't been mentioned when Adam Dunn's name comes up.
Seems like a good fit to me.

I think he'd be good there as well.
I'm just surprised no one has signed him. My guess is that his agent figured they'd wait for Manny to set some crazy bar so Dunn could get a bigger deal.
