So a buddy of mine has a roommate who is obsessed with Al-Jazeera. This guy can't stop talking about how amazing and unbiased it is. I got curious and tried to look into it. Unfortunately, i don't know too much about the station as i don't have satellite TV, so its been hard to learn about it appropriately. Everything online i read about it comes up as either really scathing, or really praising. I'm just curious as to what you people think about it.

No good idea; I have ever seen it.
My sense is that it's very biased, but that it presents news stories that rarely make it on CNN or the like. So I think, for example, it focused much more on civilian casualties in Iraq during the first years of the invasion than U.S. news organizations did.
But this is all vague memory and conjecture on my part.

My best friend works for them.
Look, like any media they have their bias. They also aren't as anti-American as they are portrayed.
It is interesting to watch as they really have a unique perspective on things and try to be as fair and balanced as they can. It's not some "down with the infidels" shit. A lot of ex-pats work there and they do a pretty good job.

I like reading Al-Jazeera articles a lot. Generally speaking, I like the European/Middle Eastern news sites more though.

I wouldn't know. I've heard their English and Arabic news service differs substantially in both content and tone, but I'm not in a position to personally evaluate that.
