Antonio Banderas was pretty good, but Johnny Depp just took it to a higher level. 8) He chewed the scenery like he chewed that slow-roasted pork. :-D

In a lot of ways, I prefer that movie to Desperado, Desperado was just over the top avtion, straight forward rehashing of El Mariachi, kind of like Evil Dead and Evil Dead two, they tried to make them sequels, but that just didn't make sense...

The only problem with Once Upon A Time In Mexico, was that all the antonio scenes were full of the extreme over the top Rodriguez baddassery, and the rest of the film was this intense espionage/crime/politcal drama with some action thrown in to keep you going, so it felt like you were watching two movies... just kinda disjointed...

Kinda like Crouching Tiger in that regard, where it starts out as this crazy Kung Fu flick, then the hour long flashback love scene..... which is so long that by the time it returns to Kung Fu awesomeness, you forgot what movie you were watching and just wanted to see the tiny asian girl getting fingered more (god that scene was dead sexy......)

But yes, Depp was amazing, my favorite part was the fake arm. that was just awesome possum...

And because it was so good. He shot the cook who made that slow-roasted pork. Because that's what he does. He restores the balance.

I agree about the sequel thing.

And while the arm part is awesome (especially when he's driving the car and smoking), it's got nothing on the part when he's killing people after his eyes have been cut out.
