Well, the simple fact is that inflection-less online talk always sounds colder and more aggressive than it usually is. Erick probably wasn't trying to viciously attack me, despite how it felt. Jude probably isn't trying to be as "fanboy pissed" as he appears. And Cham undoubtedly isn't trying to be as offended as he sounds like.
I don't personally have much stock in Metallica or what they've done in the past or recently. I like some of their music, but that's about it. In principle, as an artist, I get a little snippy when people's public comments show a certain amount of hypocrisy, so I'm on Jude's side with that. However, I also fully understand why most artists are forced to "sell out" to a certain extent.
Luckily I'm looking to get into comic writing, and the underground movement isn't big enough to have the integrity that creates a "hardcore underground artist" mentality. Plus, as Cham mentioned about artwork, I've read PLENTY of comic scans and comic artwork on the computer, and it SUCKS to read it in that medium. Comics have MUCH more impact as physical items, unlike songs which are pure data anyway.
In other words, I'm not going to be in the underground trenches any time soon shouting at other people for "selling out like punks." I just frown, on principle, at people who stand for non-conformity, then conform. But that's society today.
In the end, oh well.
I'm also not looking to make any enemies or tick anyone else off. So far, I'm having fun on this board. And hopefully I haven't alienated anyone with my sparse remarks on the subject...
