Oh definitely. Axl is an unbelievable narcissist and I'm sure, an unbelievable asshole.

Izzy Stradlin wrote most of their lyrics.
Slash was the guitar genius.

Axl brought the attitude, but did he reallt bring talent?

His voice used to be really cool and unique, but the last time I heard him a couple years ago at some awards thing he sounded like crap.

He was always said to have a studio voice though. It couldn't hold up during concerts.

Yeah, but without the other guys it's not going to be good in the studio either. At least I don't think it will be.

And I think it's a moot point, since the album is never coming out! :D

If we can't discuss pointless things on the internet, in a place called The Outhouse, in a thread about a can of cola that might be a Skrull, where can you discuss it? :-D

I actually think Jude Terror is the Skrull.

if this was in any way true, why are Izzy and Slash's albums nowhere near as good, or even...good?

And if the answer is "because they need to work together," why isn't Izzy's 14 Years the best song on a GNR record; Slash played on that?

Good strip this week.

This is actually probably pretty close to true. Some bands work well even if the individual parts aren't great separately.

exactly. whatever axl brought to the songwriting equation, he brought whatever it was necessary to make those songs great--with the other guys. when you take him out of the equation, you get Slash's Snakepit. Boo.

Of course, the reverse is true. When you take Slash & Izzy away from the songwriting process, you get whatever has been leaked from Chinese Democracy, which isn't that good, either.

It doesn't even need to have to do with who brought what to the game. The fact is that most bands are good when they are hungry and crazy. Most bands make one or two good albums, and then they get fat and rich and lazy, and they put out lame or pretentious garbage for the rest of their careers. Even if GnR never broke up, the world still moved on from what they were doing back then, and the attempts of all members in bands afterwards to keep up with where the world has gone have been relatively pathetic, even if Velvet Revolver did manage to do well commercially.

Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.

This is true of many athletes and TV shows and movie stars and wrestlers and pretty much everything. Once people hit the big time they tend to play it safe from then on out. It's not true of everyone, but in many cases it is.

I don't know - I feel like movies, wrestling, tv shows, and such are art forms in which the artists can get better with age. With music though, it's different, especially in the modern music scene. Making truly great music requires a hunger, and a kind of anger sometimes that really produces music that you can feel. When you hear some really great music, it should just blow you away with how awesome it is.
