LMD? Ghost? Time traveler? Hologram? Immortal? ZOMBIE? Just what is Agent Phil Coulson? Unless Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. television pilot takes place in an alternate universe from the Avengers movie, Coulson may not be human. Because -- spoiler space -- he died in the Avengers movie.

The tidbit about the S.H.I.E.L.D. television pilot taking place post-Avengers movie, came during an IGN interview at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour. ABC president Paul Lee said the pilot "…is part of the Marvel Universe. In fact, the story takes place after the battle of New York".

That being said, don't expect to see Thor or Captain America starring in the show. Lee said that they will be careful not to "tread on the toes of the features and build a whole new world".

The S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot start shooting next week, but nothing beyond a pilot has been ordered by ABC.

I am with the belief that they lied about his death. He got hurt, and Fury used that to play the Avengers. I do think that the wounded Couslon will become the Vision.

I wonder if we'll get any superheroes on the show, or if it will be strictly limited to SHIELD agents.

Actually they will reveal that it was Phil' brother Will Coulson that died in the Avengers movie and the real one will show up in the tv series. :-D

Conversely, I wonder if we'll be seeing supervillains (even more "ground level" baddies in costumes) or just groups like AIM, Hydra, etc.

This or LMD would be my guess.

This would be the most logical choice, given that Fury has shown he has no problems lying in order to get the group together.

I highly doubt we'll get any of the movie people. They've said they want to keep this seperate from the movies in that respect.

As far as smaller, more street level heroes.. I think that's a possibility.
