New Sailor Moon Anime by Toei to Premiere in July

The official website for the Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary Project announced on Friday that the new Sailor Moon anime will premiere this July. It will stream worldwide via the Niconico service.

New Sailor Moon Anime's Producer: Not Remaking 1st Anime

Producer Atsutoshi Umezawa (Precure franchise) said in a press release posted on Friday that the new Sailor Moon anime is not a remake. He explained, "This second anime adaptation of Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon is not remaking the previous anime, but adapting [Naoko Takeuchi's] original manga and starting from scratch again. It is quite a project. The entire staff has been working hard to show everyone an entirely new Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon, so please look forward to it."

Here's the update from my last post with additional shows -

Gundam Unicorn ***/***
Ghost in the Shell Arise ***/***
Witch Craft Works ***/*** - The best so far. Good animation to great animation. The action sequences are very nicely done. Music is awesome with the show. Characters are showing promise and so is the tired cliche. Extremely well paced and not slow as with most anime. Quirky and weird in a good way. Oh yes, it has Killer Robot Bunnies. Killer Bunnies. Killer Bunnies that love to be violent. Killer Bunnies that if left alone will start fighting one another. Killer Bunnies. :-D Also, one of the best end themes yet.
Hamatora ***/*** - Pretty good anime with lots of potential. Basically kind of like the old X-Factor comic when it was about mutant detectives. Here, "Minimum Holders" are people with super-powers that require a trigger to activate them. Our heroes use their abilities to be a detective agency based out a bar. Good animation quality.
Sekai Seifuku - Bouryaku no Zvezda ***/*** - Weird well animated show with a great music track, left me thinking I was watching a Tim Burton film. Hard to describe it but it seems like some sort of a magic war of the world. Note - the big negative on this show are some of the character designs that are not at all appropriate. Be warned.

Nobunaga the Fool **/*** - Another of the alternate reality retellings of the famous Nobunaga from Japan's past. This one involves western (European historical) characters are well as giant robots. Well animated, looks to be a good mecha time killer.
The Pilot's Love Song **/*** - Well animated series set in an alternate world with flying islands, flying battleships and such. Nice characters, plenty of potential.
Kill la Kill **/***
Nisekoi **/*** - Nicely animated show about two teenagers who cannot stand each other being forced by their family (Yakazua) to be a couple to make the peace stand between the two families. Has some charm to it.
Magical Warfare **/*** - Kind of an alternative to Tokyo Ravens, sort of. Basically, teens find out they have magic powers when they are triggered. Secret society of magic users, cliche, cliche.. not a bad time killer.
Tokyo Ravens **/***
Saint Seiya Omega **/***
Noragami **/*** - This one is a fluff show about a minor Japanese god attempting to become the major god in contemporary Japan. He's a bit slow on the up take. Nicely animated, this show seems it will likely have an interesting and charming cast to make it worth while, but then, this is a gamble as always and could end up being forgettable.
Buddy Complex **/*** - Forgetable giant tobot show with middle of the road animation, designs and cliched plot involving time travel.
Gundam Build Fighters **/***
ZX IGNITION **/*** - Seems to be a video game turned anime. Not bad animation and action. Basically the world has been over run with being from hell and heaven. Now as the world rebuilds, the war for the Earth really begins while it's going to be ultimately fought by people holding ZX cards controlling these entities. Time killer.

D-Frag! */*** - This one could be a higher rank if it wasn't so formula. Basically a school club of freaks sucks in a none freak into it. Fluff, time killer.
Engaged to the Unidentified */*** - This one is about a girl who's just been stuck into an arranged marriage. Thrown in having to deal with her twisted older sister, her soon to be twisted sister-in-law and her soon to be husband who's either a two by four or a great guy being honorable. Could be ranked higher if it can stray a bit more from formula or be a bit more successful at being charming. Fluffy time killer.
Space Dandy */*** - Crap. Over done, makes little sense, not funny, failure to be strange, failure to be weird and wonderful. Really have doubts of the second episode being an improvement.
Hozuki no Reitetsu */*** - BORING. About the perfect civil servant in hell. BORING. BORING BORING FUCKING BORING. made me want to see Space Dandy again.

More to come as I finish off the few remaining new anime including the new seasons of some that are returning.

New Astro Boy/Mighty Atom Animation to Air in Nigeria

Robot Atom, a new animated television series of Osamu Tezuka's iconic Mighty Atom (Astro Boy) character, will air in Nigeria starting this March. The project is an international joint production between Tezuka Productions and the Nigerian television station Chanel TV, and the animators are trainees who came to Japan to study.

The 30-minute episodes are aimed at preschool children, and they follow the robot boy Atom as he embarks on adventures with his human and robot friends in a future town. Instead of defeating bad guys as an "ally of justice," the story will be more about an innocent child who makes mistakes from time to time.

"Dance in the Vampire Bund" Author Matches Super Heroes Against Giant Robots

This week in Young Comic, Nozomu Tamaki launched his new manga, Uchi no Musume ni Te o Dasu na! - Don't Mess With My Daughter: The Mother/Daughter Heroine Bravery. The Dance in the Vampure Bund author describes it as the story of two generations of American style super hereos versus giant robots, and he's posted a look at its color first page.

Hard to describe it but it seems like some sort of a magic war of the world. Note - the big negative on this show are some of the character designs that are not at all appropriate. Be warned.
Wizard Barristers - Benmashi Cecil ***/*** - Nicely animated series about a 17 year old CANADIAN in Japan as a Magician Barrister. Basically, it's a world much like Harry Potter, but with magic in the open. The series focuses on a new barrister for the Butterfly group who acts as defense in court for accused magic users charged with magic crimes. Better then it sounds. Lots of interesting characters and good action scenes.

Now as the world rebuilds, the war for the Earth really begins while it's going to be ultimately fought by people holding ZX cards controlling these entities. Time killer.
Wake Up, Girls! **/*** - Well animated dramady of a idol group trying to make it's big break. Nice bunch of characters and a great alternative to action/comedy/etc. The dance number was rotoscoped and rather good.

No-Rin */*** - Comedy about an retired idol singer who goes back to school, this one focused on farming. Also there is one of her biggest fans, who's a typical nice guy nutjob. Some good comedy, the best bit being the 40 year old teacher who comes into class being obnoxiously cute and complaining about her deader then dead love life. Amazingly, she looks as young as one of her students. Fluff, but the bits when they argue can be entertaining along with the monologues by the said teacher. Could go up in rank.
Strange+ */*** - BORING CLICHE. Basically about a detective agency and a comedy... some how... it's one of the growing number of 5 minute shows. Saw nothing worthwhile with it. Not funny, not cute, not well animated, no charm.... blah.

Still more to come given time. Also possible re-rankings after seeing some of the second episodes.

Hope any of this helps folks.
