Manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka considered Phoenix his life's work, and as such, the manga exploring the human condition from the beginning of Japanese history to the end of humanity is one of the most important manga by one of most important manga authors.
Viz's 12 volume English edition of the work has been out of print. So, while some of the later volumes have been easy to track down, others became rare and pricey.
Fortunately, this classic has now returned in digital form, with Viz offering it through their manga store
, as well as other formats like Kindle, Nook, iBookstore and Google Play. The release starts with "Dawn," originally published in Tezuka's alternative manga anthology COM starting in 1967. The entry takes place in Japan's mythical age, under the rule of Queen Himiko of the Yamataikoku.
