I'm wondering how they arrived at their figure. Length of a typical polar bear pregnancy? Wolf pregnancy? An average of the two? If only there was some kind of...network of computers I could access to obtain this information.

It's a malamute, not a wolf, and polar bear pregnancies run about 8 months.
