Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gives a

The actress has reportedly been cast as Victoria Hand for an episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Source: EXCLUSIVE: Saffron Burrows Cast As Agent Victoria Hand In Marvel’s ‘Agents Of SHIELD’

Zechs here, filling in for El Presidente, who I've locked in my bathroom after luring him in there with an expensive bottle of beard conditioner. To be honest, I just didn't want him to blow his stack after learning that, Latino Review, a competing Latino-themed Hollywood gossip website who he deems as infidels, has gotten another Marvel movie scoop.  They're reporting that Saffron Burrows (Deep Blue Sea, Troy) has been cast as Victoria Hand and will be showing up for at least one episode on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. , provided the show is not canceled for its constantly plummeting ratings before then. They give no word on when she'll show up, but this reporter will lay odds it'll be sometime in February.

Hand played a huge role in the Marvel event Dark Reign. She was an accountant before being promoted to administrative assistant under Norman Osborn when he took over S.H.I.E.L.D. and rebranded it H.A.M.M.E.R. After the event, Hand was made S.H.I.E.L.D. liaison to the New Avengers (New Avengers v. 2 #1) and assisted the team until she was killed off by Brother Voodoo's brother Daniel in the final arc of the book (New Avengers v. 2 #28-34).

She was a very thorough agent of H.A.M.M.E.R./S.H.I.E.L.D., even standing up to "heavy" villains such as Bullseye, Moonstone, Molecule Man, and Norman himself, even besting some of them. She's an honest woman trying to do the right thing; though her possible continued allegiance to Norman was called into question numerous times in the New Avengers Volume 2, particularly during the arc when Norman returned (New Avengers v. 2 #12-22), but eventually she proved she fought for the good guys and not Norman. Here's a picture of Victoria Hand, daydreaming about this reporter:

What'll she be doing on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Stay tuned to the Outhouse, and we'll put El Presidente on the case. I've got to let him out of the bathroom eventually, if for no other reason than because I really have to pee.

I think she'll do good in the role if this rumour turns out to be true.

Because Maria Hill is already around and Bendis' S.H.I.E.L.D. creations were never particularly dynamic or unique.

I don't see Maria Hill around.

They could be using Hand as a stop-gap until How I Met Your Mother ends.

Or they could be using her in a completely different manner from the comics. :smt102

She was in the pilot and it has been stated by both Cobie Smulders and production that while her commitment to How I Met Your Mother would prevent her from being a series regular during the first season of AoS, it would not prevent her from participating in the show in a limited capacity. We don't know when/if she will be back throughout this season but it's certainly a possibility.

You are likely correct, especially since a lot of her comic history will be completely off limits for the series since it involves Norman Osborn.

She was in 2 minutes of one episode, yes. That is not "around"... maybe they want a more regular presence for the time being?

We don't even really know if she wants to be a part of the show next year (if it gets renewed)... both Marvel and she have talked their way around it without saying anything concrete. For all we know, she may want to move on to movies or something after HIMYM ends.

AoS will see out this season (lot of big egos signed on to make this a hit), but I wouldn't put money on it getting full second season. My prediction is that it only gets a shortened mini-series to wrap up any loose ends, set up Avengers 2, and be a sop to face saving, for "season 2". Unless they do some really big re-tooling for the back nine of course, like dump the Fitzsimmons cutesy crap and shove Skye into a fridge (and then nuke the fridge to be sure).
