They constantly label Namor as Earth's first mutant. But he was born either in the 20's or 30's. Apocalypse was born in Egypt during the First Dynasty which is like 3000 B.C.
So how come Namor is always labeled as the first mutant?
He was published first.

How about Marvel's first created mutant?

He was Timely\Marvel's first mutant character, even if that aspect of his character was added later (I think)

Because Namor debuted first (1940s) even though Apocalypse is older in comic book age. Apocalypse debuted in 1980s. That's why Namor is the first mutant.

I'm not talking about in real life. I'm talking about in the world of comics.
Every now and then they'll say how Namor is the first mutant. And this is false!

Most of them don't know that Apocalypse was around in ancient Egypt. It's not like he has a biography out or anything.

I never really liked the "mutant" angle they shoe-horned into Namor.
Tying him into the X-Men stuff is a case of putting a square peg in a round hole (thats what she said) because they don't know what else to do with the character.
It's kind of a shame because I think Namor can be a cool enough character to stand on his own.

Wolverine would be older than Namor too, right?
Wasn't Wolverine born in the 19th Century?

It's even more convoluted in the Ultimate Universe.

I don't like Namor as a mutant either but I like him hanging out with the other outcasts.

Namor shouldn't be a mutant - he's a hybrid.
And Devil Dinosaur was a mutant looong before Apocalypse was born (but then they've changed DD's origin so many time it's hard to tell).
