This is my thinking as well.

SHIELD is backing this version of the Avengers as they did with the Ultimates.

So there have to be at least some SHIELD Agents on the team.

Other than Sam Jackson Fury, who seems to be in charge.

If anything I would have expected the writers to add Ms. Marvel (one character, hot blonde chick) before adding the Pyms.

Or use the Utimates Dr. Janet Van Dyne as Giant Girl.

Pym's not in this maily because of the Edgar Wright film (which I don't think will ever be made personally).

Based on the report that most of the story is told from Cap's point of view i would hazzard a guess that he will have the most screen time.

Downey Jr. is obviously going to be chewing up the scenery in this film, but I am confident that all the actors (aside from Scarjo) will be able to hold their own a bit.

And my first thought from those screen shots weren't atlantean I thought they were creatures form another "9 realms", why would atlantis have ships with the ability to fly?

The reason Hawkeye and Black Widow are in this is the same reason why Nick Fury is black. These are the Ultimates, not the Avengers.

And yes, I know Pym (as Giant Man) and Wasp were in Ultimates, but it makes sense why they picked who they did.

We don't see any ships.

The thing that they are jumping from appears to be a creature of sorts.. maybe the "Leviathan" that was a rumored script leak over the summer. You can see in closeups of the screenshot that it's a spikey thing.

It's really an amalgamation of the two stories, with a little bit of their own spin too.

Fury is black because Jackson is a popular actor and wanted to do the films. If he didn't do it I guaruntee they would have gone with the traditional Fury.

But so much stuff is divergent from the Ultimates, it is safe to say that they are just cherry picking what they want to use, and taking the best of it.

You mean the made up story of a Marvel/Disney production giving a shit about the sales of a Warner Brothers/Time Warner/DC product?

I'm not opposed to it, but I think the easier route is just another world from the 9 realms. Seeing as how Loki was lost on the rainbow bridge and all.

It doesn't really matter though, either way it opens up a lot of story possibilities.
