Mass Effect 3 (potential spoilers)

Postby Strict31 » Wed Feb 22, 2012 3:16 pm

Since Mass Effect 3 will be released in a few days (March 6), and I haven't seen any recent threads (and if there is one, it can suck this thread's dick), I figured maybe to start one for discussing the game and news about the game.

THERE ARE LIKELY TO BE SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD

Launch day DLC leaked:

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/7 ... at-launch/

"Unearth lost secrets from the past and recruit the Prothean squad member in Mass Effect 3: From Ashes."

While this will prove no surprise to anyone who picked up the recently released Art of Mass Effect book (Dark Horse), it was leaked on the Xbox marketplace, and apparently was going for 800 microsoft points before it was pulled.

Yeah. Well, there's a couple of things. The art book spoils a number of minor details about ME3, but the biggest one was the existence of a Prothean squad member. I don't wanna necessarily say that was common knowledge because it was in the book, because I sure as fuck didn't know about it until I opened the fucker up. But at the same time, the info is already out there.

Also, Jack now has hair.

A Prothean squad member is kind of a big deal, since these guys were all either killed or "Indoctrinated" by the Reapers. You'd think that would be important enough to include in the game instead of bilking players for extra loot as launch day DLC.

But...since it was leaked by mistake, the price point might not even be final. It may end up being free...eh, who knows.

Also, I mentioned the art book, which is pretty cool.

Image

Published by Dark Horse, it's running for about $40, but you can find it on Amazon for around $26.

It has concept designs from all three games, which means there are a few minor spoilers in it about ME3. Some of the material for ME1 was previously released in an early ME art book, but it's nice to have all this stuff gathered in one book if you're interested in the designs.

And now and then stab, as occasion serves."

I am all over this.

ME2 is one of my favorite games of this generation.

ME2 had way too much talking and not nearly enough combat for my liking but I've heard ME3 gives you the choice of play styles, including an all-combat setting, so they may get my dollars yet.

I was going to start a thread about about ME3 to mention the cool commercial from Gamestop. :D

I was going to get the art book but a lot of the Dark Horse stuff ends up at TFAW at half off.

As for the spoilers, sounds really cool, I'm glad you didn't post real spoilers (story).

I'm taking a couple days off work this week so I don't know if I'll be able to take off the week of release. :D

i DLed the demo the other night. It's neat-o. The multiplayer is surprisingly fun. It's the kind of thing I wanted at the end of ME2, just a repeatable mission set so you can run combat scenarios nonstop. I say check it out if you're bored and like things that are free to play.

How does multiplayer work? Does each player take on the role of a different squad member? 'cause that'd be sweet!

Basically. You don't play as any of the NPCs from the campaign, instead you're given an armored stock avatar with skills template similar to the classes you get to use in campaign. You can customize the name and armor colors for your guy, and between matches you can use your exp and credits to upgrade gear and powers.

Really guys? Strict tells you that there's a PROTHEAN squad member in the game and no one is talking about it?

The mysterious people that were completely fucking wiped off the face of the galaxy by the reapers and one is alive and well?!

I think this may be a huge character for the third game.

Except that, for all intents and purposes, he is only a DLC. It would be more exciting if he were a character that is initially included in the actual release, that way he may actually play an important role in the story. As it stands, he will probably only be as important as Zaeed or Kasumi were in Mass Effect 2.

What the hell was the point of Kasumi anyways? You couldn't even really talk to her, just open and close her window and listen to her stupid stories about the shit in her room.

In all fairness, the Protheans were alive in ME2, if not exactly well. ;)

I was really excited about the game, but the dumbed down demo soured me on it a bit. Add in the launch day DLC (a big "Fuck you" from EA and Bioware) and there is no way I'm getting it new.

Mass Effect 2 is the main reason that I currently own an X-Box 360. I was lucky enough to be able to pre-order a copy of the Collector's Edition for X-Box 360 and I am very excited for its release. I am really excited about the idea that I can actually choose how much story and action are in the game. As a whole, I enjoy playing these games for the choices and the story. There are hundreds of mindless action games out there, its refreshing to have something different.

However, there are a couple of things that I have heard that I bugging me. I don't like the fact that the amount of permanent squad members has been scaled down from Mass Effect 2. I went to the extra effort to save all of my crew, so the least that BioWare could do is reward those of us who accomplished this feat by giving us access to our entire crew. Of course, on the flip side of that, I don't like the fact that characters like Ashley/Kaiden and Liara are being forced back into scene. Liara became massively annoying during Mass Effect 2 (especially the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC) and the only interest that I have in Ashley is to tell her to piss off so that my Shepard can run off with Miranda.

I don't buy that, I mean I understand because it's DLC why someone would think that but this is a species who is vital to this games mythology which leads me to believe this character and his species may be pretty big in the game. (Sort of like Catwoman in Arkham City)

the "dumbed down" demo was because they had to limit a lot of the options in the demo to make it fit the live publishing.

And the multiplayer is insanely good. 8)
