As exciting of a prospect as this is (and make no mistake about it, it would be huge), they would need to use the "modern" day X-Men characters prior to X3, otherwise you are losing Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Rogue. I am assuming that the studio would want to include Cyclops specifically because I would hope that they want to explore his connection with Havok. The problem with this of course, would be how much older the actor and actresses are as compared to when X-Men 2 was released. However, if they want to use this movie to actively retcon X3 from existence, then I am quite ok with that.

just recast, the majority of the casting in X1 & X2 was awful.
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.

I honestly do not have a problem with this, especially Cyclops and Storm. However, don't you think that it may lose some of it's impact with the more casual fans?

I doubt it, especially if they go with the alternate timeline thing. Worked for Star Trek.
