Movies This Year So Far

Postby draco x » Fri Apr 06, 2012 6:34 pm

Here is a breakdown of movies I have seen so far this year in terms of being good and bad-as well as movies I wish to see later on before the year is done:

Good:

Safe House-If you're a Denzel Washington fan like myself you won't be disappointed as he stole the show. Didn't care much for Ryan Reynold's character however.

John Carter-I am aware this bombed big time but it was a decent film nonetheless.

Wrath Of The Titans-Another decent film although the prequel was better

Bad:

Haywire-D-List film with bad acting and a boring storyline all over. The only good part was Gina Carrano kicking ass

Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengaence-Bad film all over. I am so glad I payed half-price to watch this.

Journey 2: Mysterious Island-A poor man's Jurassic Park. I really wish they had brought back Branden Frasier and Arnita Briehm as the Rock's character was so boring

Movies I Have Yet To See:

The Avengers, The Amazing Spiderman, The Dark Knight Rises, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, GI Retaliation, The Expendables 2, Total Recall, etc

Will update regularly.........

I don't understand how you could think Clash of the Titans was good?

You mean the original and not the remake right?

Sigh, did they push the date back again? WTF is wrong with DC and WB? They always screw up when it comes to their flagship character. Well I guess that's one movie I can scratch off my list for this year.

I only saw the last 10 minutes of the original as a kid so I can't compare which one is better yet.

DC's Shit-For-Brains policies at its finest again. How many times do they have to keep screwing up Superman?

I have seen thus far this year in theaters:

Underworld Awakening: Really liked it as I am a big fan of this franchise. Was better than the 3rd prequel installment, and set the stage nicely for the next step in the franchise.

Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance: I liked this movie to, no it wasn't a cinematic masterpiece but it was still entertaining nonetheless. I thought it was better than the first movie, and I loved that the majority of the fights took place during the day where you could actually see them instead of at night in total darkness where you can't see shit.

John Carter: Absolutely loved this movie! I am so saddened by the fact that it did not do better at the box office. I really hope that it has a great dvd release and more movies are made because I thought it was a really good sci fi fantasy family movie.

These are the ones I am most looking forward to seeing in theaters:

Avengers, Rock of Ages, Prometheus, GI Joe Retaliation, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, Amazing Spider-Man, Dog Fight, Resident Evil Retribution, Lone Ranger, and The Hobbit.

Movies I have seen so far in the theaters:

Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance: This movie was a mixed bag. It had great special effects and action scenes with terrible overacting and comedy bits that weren't funny. I was disappointed with this movie.

John Carter: A movie with no sales that I see everyone online seems to love. I thought it was OK. You could definitely see the $250 million budget being put to good work. A little too kiddie for my tastes.

Underworld Awakening: I liked this movie a lot. I guess it helps that I'm a fan of the franchise. This movie had nonstop action. Can't go wrong with some Kate Beckinsale eye candy too.

Wrath of the Titans: I thought this movie was pretty good. I enjoyed Clash even more though. It was a good popcorn movie. Leave your brain at the door.

Movies I still want to see in theaters:
The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman, Prometheus, GI Joe Retaliation, Amazing Spider-man, Total Recall, Resident Evil Retribution, and the Hobbit

I've only seen John Carter so far this year and loved it.
Will probably only see Avengers and Prometheus in theaters (and maybe Spider-man, Batman and the Hobbit.)

Superman was originally targeted for December this year (never actually given a firm date that I can find) and moved to June for two reasons...
1) to let WB distribute "The Hobbit" as the winter movie of choice and
2) to give WB a super-hero flick in the summer of 2013 (which they likely no longer had one after GL wasn't sequeled).

But go ahead and be angry at DC - a company with zero control over these matters.

All I've seen (in the theater) this year so far was Hunger Games (wife's pick).

Plenty on my list but really the only ones I'm a lock for are: Dark Knight, Avengers, Skyfall, World War Z, Hobbit, Dredd and maybe Looper.

The rest are for 2013 Netflixing.

Wrath of the Titans
21 Jump Street
John Carter
Safehouse

I liked all of those, even Wrath of the Titans which was a huge improvement on the remake of Clash of the Titans (although it's still just a fun action movie).

Ryan Reynolds was just okay in Safehouse, not too great. Denzel was awesome though.

21 Jump Street was the funniest movie I've seen in a long time.
