But is his mustache staying behind?

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Due to scheduling conflicts and possibly three not good movies behind him, Henry Cavill is out as Superman in the DCEUWarner Bros. was trying to get Cavill to make a cameo in Shazam!, but negotiations broke down.

Warner's issued a statement regarding Cavill, which didn't clarifying much.

"While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we've always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged."

The studio is shifting focus towards a Supergirl origin movie, which would mean that Kal-El would be an infant, effectively ageing out Cavill in the role. A solo Superman movie isn't likely to made anytime soon and Cavill has other potential franchises on his hands.

Maybe this is the impetus DC/Warner finally need to just hit the reset button on their ill considered Randian Philosophy based superhero movies. They keep talking about walking back some of the elements and having soft reboots, but it doesn't matter what the decor is like if the house's foundations are built on a swamp.

The only way forward is to hit the hard reset button, and go in a whole new (and hopefully planned out) direction right from the off. Maybe reboot it with a Booster Gold and the Blue Beetle movie, as an adventure comedy, and go from there. No grimdark, no gritty, and no weird CGI badguys.

I admit to never having read Rand, so I'm not really sure what was Randian about the DCEU movies; I just thought they were ordinary crappy movies... :smt017

A properly done Blue and Gold movie sounds great, but I suspect that even if they got the perfect people for it, WB would intervene to "improve" it until it sucked.

There have been rumors for some weeks that Cavill would not be returning as Superman. What happened behind the scenes is that Cavill thought his star was rising and like "stars" do, he was demanding more control about any future movies, more money and Warner Bros was not happy with those demands. So Cavill walked. And its not just Cavill, as apparently Ben Affleck is also out as Batman (if the rumors are true - the story is currently breaking on news sites). The studio has been in talks with the troubled star (who does regular stints in rehab due to ongoing personal problems) and the skyrocketing insurance and its no secret that WB was very unhappy with the reception to Justice League and the prior Batman v Superman Dawn Of Justice and Man Of Steel (all three not meeting the expectations the studio had about them). What Warner Bros needs at this point is a giant reset because obviously Batman and Superman are two of the most recognizable brands. So yeah, great news about Cavill and the studio (like the rumors have been saying for some weeks) wants to move ahead with a Supergirl movie as they were very happy with the reception to Wonder Woman and very much want to replicate that success. So expect other female superheroes to appear if the studio gets its way (like Black Canary and Batgirl).

Henry Cavill Exits DC Films Because Warner Bros. Doesn't Need A Superman

Yes, Henry Cavill will presumably join Ben Affleck in the “former DC warriors” club, as it’s all but certain that a new actor will take over for Affleck in Matt Reeves’ Batman movie.

Zack Snyder is an Objectivist which is the philosophy proposed by Ayn Rand in the book Atlas Shrugged. Basically, it says that the best way to help society is to only look out for yourself and only do things that benefit you and only you personally. It's Voltaire's "cultivate your own garden" taken to an ideological extreme. Which is why Jonathan Kent tells Superman as a boy to not save anyone and for him to look out for only himself in Man of Steel.

That could work with the movies...maybe. But even in such an event, they'll need to work twice as hard to get any of the goodwill Marvel movies have accrued.

Sounds like a kind of harsh, bleak way to live.

It will all end with a snap, when Batman realizes Superman is feeling him up. That's Robin's job...

To boil Rand down to her essential argument. Selflessness and generosity are the worst sins that a human can exhibit, selfishness is the only true virtue, if you see someone being given help from an outside source you have a duty to intervene to stop it, and that only those who are strong have a right to survive.

There is a lot of back and forth and monologuing in her works, but that is the basic gist of it. Snyder really believes in her books, especially the Fountainhead which is the one with less genocide in it but more ranting about how the man is keeping true geniuses down, and that was reflected in the movies. Especially the Jonathan Kent scenes.

It absolutely is

Henry Cavill Flying Away Is an Opportunity for DC to Start Over

Now, DC's big-screen interconnected universe may be dead for good; at the very least, it's on ice. Deadline notes that Affleck—who has portrayed Batman in a trio of Warner Bros. films—likely won’t be returning to the cowl-and-growl role that resulted in one of the more depressing memes of all time. And a long-ago-promised sequel to Justice League will likely slip off IMDb at some point soon, much to the chagrin of no one, save for Jason Momoa's abs sommelier, who was looking forward to that bonus.
