New Details about Disney's Marvel-Themed Rides Emerge

Postby LOLtron » Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:02 am

New Details about Disney's Marvel-Themed Rides EmergeA few new details about Avengers rides at Disney!

Tom Staggs, the head of Disney's park unit, announced that Disney was moving forward with plans to introduce Avengers and other Marvel themed rides to Disney's California Adventure park and other Disney parks across the world.  Staggs hopes that the new attractions, which do not yet have a formal opening date, will boost the lagging Disney park, which is located next to the more famous Disneyland resort.

The other piece of big news is that Avengers themed rides will not appear at Walt Disney World in Florida.  Staggs confirmed that they are contractually restricted due to a pre-existing contract with local rival Universal Studios.

Still, I like to imagine Disney sending a fleet of helicopters armed with electromagnets to "forcefully repossess" the Hulk coaster...

I wondered how this was going to work with the Universal Studios attractions. The Incredible Hulk is one of the best coasters in the world of its type, but technically it could be re-themed. The Spider-Man ride, however, can't be. I hope there's no danger of losing that licensing.

Disney should just buy Lanai, make rival Asgard and Latverian castles, plus theme rides; and a floating helicarrier to take you there.

The Hulk is AMAZING, but i would do anything to see Disney get back the licence . The Marvel part of Islands of Adventure is extremely outdated and cheesy, i think Disney would just do theming better. It seems like at this point, Universal is going to rest on their laurels, and probably avoid any big sweeping changes to their Marvel area as to avoid the extended pimping of their main competitor's franchises.

Another thing that i never thought I would say, is that it really limits the type of synergy that Disney is famous for. We couldn't get exclusive merchandise or anything like that. As it stands now, the merchandise at Universal is some of the worst, they seem to be keeping it as generic as possible, and if Disney is good at one thing, its merchandise
