Marilyn Manson never disappoints. I have loved all his stuff. I really want and need to see him live. That's got to be an amazing show.

It's alright. The problem - and I say this as someone who owns every Manson album - is that as he has aged he has refused to evolve. His newer records lack the threat and revolution of the earlier ones because they just sound like tired, out-of-ideas pastiches of better albums made by a younger and angrier man. There's nothing new here, so rather bother one may as well just go back to Antichrist Superstar or Portrait of an American Family.

Also: he's too shit an actor to be allowed to attempt Shakespeare,

Why does it have to be "angrier" to be good, though?

Your contradicting yourself a little bit there. In the first sentence you say he has gotten older and refused to evolve, then in the next you chastise him for not sounding like his younger self. :smt017

No, I'm chastising him for rehashing the ideas he had as a younger, angrier man but to diminishing returns. I'm saying I would rather listen to the old records, as nowadays he sounds like a pantomime dame as opposed to the threat he once embodied.

It doesn't. But it shouldn't pretend to be, either. Evolve, move forward, quit copying your own better records.

Hooray, taboo sexuality. Discovery Health is more shocking than this video.

I agree with Nieto. Manson had a couple of decent albums, but he's been rehashing the same ideas for the last ten or fifteen years.

I hear what Nieto and MrBlack are saying, but I. would honestly apply it onl y to his previous album. There was a very nice progression and evolution on Portrait, Antichrist, Mechanical Animals, Hollywood, GAOG, and Eat Me Drink Me. Each album had its own cohesive sound and, IMO, other than the obligatory similar sounding single or two (see every Eminem album since the Real Slim Shady single for an example of this phenomenon) each of those albums was unique and less angry. Mechanical Animals was melancholy, Golden Age of Grotesque was arrogant and sleazy, Eat Me Drink Me was like a fucking Guns N Roses record. The last album though was kind of a generic almagamation of all those sounds, with a focus on the earlier ones, which are less interesting to me. Still, I think Manson has a better track record than most and I have faith he can put out another great album. I hope this is it.
