Yeah, Centipede isn't a bad idea for a foe, but they need somebody, some individual, the viewer can look at and wish ill of.

One thing is still bugging me about this show.

It comes on at 10pm now. But they're still just shooting people in the knees instead of killing them.

I mean, maybe once in a blue moon they'll shoot to kill.

But there are way too many occasions where it would have been smarter to kill various bad guys.

It was cool to see Reece beat up that HR dude. But why didn't he finish the dude off? I don't remember, but was there a story-reason why he didn't?

Finch has rules..

Only guy Reese killed, that I remember, is that one guy who poisoned the other dude with radioactive material. He gave him a glass of the same drink at his country club.

Finch gets pissed when Shaw kills people, or wants to. He is a pacifist, it would seem.

In one word, Finch.

He doesn't want his partners to be lethal unless they need to be. Reece used to complain and Shaw has repeatedly.
"Why are you pointing your screwdrivers like that? They're scientific instruments, not water pistols."
"Oh, the pointing again! They're screwdrivers! What are you going to do? Assemble a cabinet at them?"
"Are you capable of speaking without flapping your hands about?"
""Timey" what? "Timey wimey"?"

I think it has to do more with Finch's ideas of being heroes and saving people than being a pacifist. He seems to recognize the need but would rather not let it be done so arbitrarily.

Also, I think Reese has killed a number of people through the show, but as you point out, the not-in-self-defence-or-to-save-others.. it's a short list with him.

This is kinda like the old debate about Batman killing the Joker. Which always seemed fallacious, because Batman's goal has always been to hand the Joker and other criminals over to the law, not to punish them himself.

But in the case of the PoI crew, they are there to save or to stop the individuals identified by the Machine.

Now...letting the HR guy go puts more lives in danger, as clearly shown by this week's episode. Seems like killing him when you've got the chance might be in line with the team's goal.

I suppose I can understand them knee-capping regular nameless thugs (although I find it dangerous to leave a foe behind who can still conceivably pull a trigger)...even though some of these thugs could give some fairly accurate descriptions of the team to either the police, or to unsavory individuals who might want the team dead.

But with the HR guy...I mean, how do you beat that guy to a pulp and leave him alive to cause more havoc to the innocent? Seems like a dangerous oversight, Harold's morality aside.

But my point here is that it's no longer a show that dwells at the top of the Prime Time zone, where kids might be allowed to watch the show. It's in a time slot where, once upon a time, Andy Sipowicz showed his hairy ass crack to the world. Green Arrow routinely killed people last season at 8pm. Them Winchester boys regularly behead bitches and set people on fire.

This show comes on at 10pm, and they shy away from killing...

...for reasons that are not always tactically sound.

To make a freedom-omelet, you sometimes have to snap a muthafucka's neck.

I agree, Reese should've shot Simmons in the knee or something...

i think reeses aversion to killing is only overcome when it comes to a guy that abuses women.

then again, he did kill that mob hitman in that ep where a mobster's # came up.

he seems picky on who to kill and not to kill.

So, the promos seem to be implying that someone's going to die in the coming three-parter, and the strong hint is that it's Fusco who's on his way out. The show is never this straightforward, though: I think it's someone else. I have a funny feeling it may be Reece.

Nah, no Reece = no show.

Gotta be Fusco.

No Finch = no show. Shaw is more fun, anyway, and far more of a loose cannon.

I predict that Fusco will be shot in the knee.

Finch could be replaced with Root. She has access to the machine and it would be a new interesting dynamic.

But the safer bet is on Fusco or Root.

Finch could not be replaced by Root. Nieto is right about no Finch equaling no show. He's wrong about no Reese, however. They both comprise the core unit and neither Shaw nor Root could stand in and see the show continue. It might make an interesting alternative for an episode or two, here and there, but right now, it would not be sustainable.

Root and Shaw are both still far too broken.

And currently, Root has almost no meaningful relationship with Reese and would serve as a poor replacement for Finch. Conversely, Shaw and Finch are still too uncomfortable with each other for her to replace Reese.
