They make the Clippers look like the Yankees.

THEY SOLD DRAFT PICKS.

A poorly run franchise isn't the same as a bad hockey city. They had a great fan base. They were no different than the Islanders; poorly run with an old arena. Plus the basis for the Avalanche Cup teams was started in Quebec, particularly with the Lindros trade that brought in Forsberg and a bunch of draft picks. I think you're confusing them with the Montreal Expos.

The NHL Might have given us the frozen envelope to get Tavares.

I'm okay with that.

Dude, if any envelope was going to be frozen, it was going to have a blue maple leaf on it.

Altough, in Tiny Gary's world, it probably would have been a coyote. Fucking retard.

How do you really feel about Bettman as commissioner? You seem really on the fence about him............

Seriously, I agree that the NHL needs to contract, and needs to move some teams up to Canada.

And I also agree that Bettman is an idiot. Why that man still has his job is a fucking mystery.

The Leafs weren't in position to get Tavares, the best they could get mathematically was the #2 spot since they finished 7 and you can only move up 5 spots, though CuJo was trying to suck them into contention those last 2 weeks.

The Leafs did their now-typical burst at the end of the season to screw up a great draft spot.

I don't know as moving multiple teams to Canada is the answer. Right now, I think one more team in Ontario would work, but I don't think Winnipeg or Quebec is really in a position to have a team succeed there. Sad but true.

I don't know why Bettman still has a job. I guess he hasn't cost the owners money yet, so that's good. But failed expansion, no tv deals of any significance, falling off the national sports landscape in the states. People SHOULD get fired for that.

I still can't believe we got 2 draft picks for trading 2 spots with Burke.

Thanks for #37 overall again. :-D

Though, you guys are happy with Schenn, we're happy with Bailey and Petrov (Your 3rd last year that came to us), so maybe it works out for both of us?

I think more teams in Canada would work well. I also think there shouldn't be more than 20-24 teams total. Maybe move two teams up North and contract another 4 or 6 and then get the league healthy.

When Bettman took over hockey was clearly the #4 sport in the US. It was coming off one of the biggest eras of all time. Super Mario and The Great One were the biggest stars, but casual sports fans in the US knew the names of everyone on the All Star teams and then some. Guys like Messier were as famous as anyone playing baseball or football or basketball.

Then he started moving teams. Then he added like 6 teams in 2 years at the end of the 90's and into the start of this decade. Plus he was in charge of two big lockouts. The second lockout killed the sport in the US. All the dumb shit before that really really hurt it and it was free falling in the American consciousness, however that second lockout canceled a season, took the NHL off of the American radar for far too long, and led to ESPN ending their relationship with them while they moved to the Vs network that many markets don't carry and no one watches.

Bettman should be fired. He should have been fired 4 or 5 years ago before that last contract expired or right after the lockout and move to Vs. He's done a great job of killing the sport in the US.

Shame of it is, they finally got a decent jersey and now won't exist.
They debuted with those AWFUL Home/Away Jerseys, then added the Third which may be one of the worst jerseys in the history of sports.

The Black Third now is serviceable and the home/away jerseys are actually quite nice and look like traditional hockey jerseys.

As opposed to this abortion that came out of the lockout:

Image

Why does that home jersey have different colored sleeves?

and why does the third jersey look like an Atlanta Hawks jersey instead of a Thrashers jersey? Anyone?

Possible because the Thrashers and Hawks are owned by the same clusterflock, mabye? :-D

If Schenn is Adam Foote V2, I think it worked out real nicely. It wasn't with Burke though, that was Fletcher.

Problem wasn't getting Schenn, it was all the other little moves that traded away pics. What kind of rebuilding franchise trades away draft picks? Geez.
