We had chain of 3 stores around here called Quonset Hut. Great stores that are now gone because of Best Buy. All we have left is Time Traveler. I'll do my part so they stick around.

I haven't found one in Mississauga, probably won't. Too many Best Buys, HMVs and those craps. I know a couple shops in downtown Toronto, but getting there is a bitch, especially in the winter.

I like the online thing.

Can't blame you there. It's a 5-10 minute drive to Time Traveler for me so it's no big deal. Along with Best Buy we have FYE, Wal-Mart and Target. All three of which I refuse to buy a CD at.

I miss Tower, overpriced chain store that it was.

It was also independent (hence the overpricing - it was harder for us to get deals with the majors). Best selection in the world, too. I miss it every day. :(

There was a Tower Records by the university I went to.

I used to flip through the magazines all the time, but their CDs were just way too expensive.

To give Tower its due, they usually had some good stuff on sale every week. And they actually seemed to care about all genres, not just the currently popular stuff.

Great magazine selection, too.

Now i'm depressed. :(

Virgin bought out the Tower stores in the UK. The last day of Tower was mine too - I refused to work for Virgin. Seeing how miserable the few managers who stayed on became (and are) I know I made the right choice.

Definitely sounds like you did.

No such buyout in the US - the spaces just went empty until other businesses took them over.

I've heard the guy who founded Tower has a new store in Sacramento, and that a few countries still have Towers, but that doesn't do me much good.

Yeah, Russ Solomon opened up R2 (I think it's called) on the first Tower site. So long as he keeps it out of the paws of his idiot son then it should be all good...

The only Tower Records I was in was in downtown Toronto. Great store. I bought my copy of Heathers there.

I went in that one too. And the Sam the Record Man down on Yonge street.

we'll be going over to my in-laws. They always have a huge New Years bash. This is the first year, though, that our oldest daughter won't be with us. She wanted to go to a party that a friend of hers is having. I'm kind of bummed about it, but I know how I felt at 15, so I can't blame her, and it is supervised.

One thing I hate about New Years....

Champagne

I can't stand that stuff and I always have to choke down a glass at midnight :(

I'm glad that I don't have to drink that stuff. Nasty to the core.
