I really don't think anyone whose been to an NHL game has this distaste for hockey.

I'm serious. You catch it live, it's amazing.

Easy solution...stop hanging around with people who like crappy sports.

On the other hand, Bettman may have saved the Islanders, but he still ruined the league. They definitely need someone new in that seat, someone who can make the tough sell in America.

And, as an aside, I wasn't in town for the playoffs, but I did catch the Finals, and I will hate NBC forever for making Mike Milbury one of their talking heads. As an Islander fan, every time I saw his big fat face spouting out a ton of crap during their broadcasts just made me want to punch right through my TV screen. I hate that man. I hate that man.

I just don't get it. The NHL has some of the most clean cut, humble athletes and yet cannot market them. Bettman should have been canned after the strike.

You're right, it is all about marketing. It can't be that difficult to sell Sidney Crosby or Rick DiPietro. They're young, super-skilled, they have names that are easily pronounced (I always got the impression that Americans don't want to have to deal with Europeans with long names).

Unless of course, they look like this:

Seriously, I don't mind foreign athletes as long as they speak decent English. Ichiro pi$$ed me off a few years ago using an interperter in an interview despite the fact he's been in the US FOR FIVE FREAKING YEARS!

Agreed. Hockey is the best live sport there is. I love hockey and wish it would get more exposure. Unfortunately, for that to happen in the US they need to get off VS or whatever the hell that network is called. Getting back on ESPN would help. I just don't see that happening. I watch shows like Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption. They talk about hockey for about two minutes every two weeks or so.

As has the Lord of the Monkeys. Hell, I've held the Stanley Cup.

And I still don't like Hockey.

But then, what do I know? I love Arena Football.

Hockey is boring. That's why ESPN's coverage of it is great, they just cover the 3 goals scored in a game in less than 30 seconds, Otherwise, hockey is a puck going back and forth with no real consequence, unlike football and basketball.

And yes, soccer is also boring based on the same principle as hockey.

Take the "NBA" out of that sentence and repost it, and see what the answer is. :smt045
