Have any of you guys ever checked the
Pokemon Adventures(or sometimes also called Pocket Monster Special) manga?
For a brief description, this series follows closely the characters and events of the game series(much more closely than the better known animated show). It is divided in "arcs" that covers the events of each installment of the game (I.E: The Red/Green/Blue Arc=Pokemon Red/Blue and the never released in U.S.A Green,The Yellow Arc,The Gold/Silver/Crystal Arc and so on) each starring the main character(s) of the game (as opposed to the "nearly 20 years of school skipping tyke" from the animated show).
Despite still being mostly oriented to younger audiences, there is a quite a bit of character development. Not only that, but also villains and adversaries from the game are more competent, devious and act more...well villainous( including attempting, and at times
succeeding, to seriously hurt or even
kill pokemons or
even other human characters.
Characters also develop close and at times romantics relationships or at the very least display signs of attractions for one other. So yeah, you will not see the mostly sexless or romantically oblivious main characters from the other medias.
There is even a little bit of innuendo oriented humor.
All topped with some images that may disturb some much younger and impressionable part of the kids
