Updated at 10:40 a.m. ET: ROME -- Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday he will step aside as leader of the world's 1.2 billion Roman Catholics on Feb. 28, saying he no longer has the strength to carry out his duties.
Speaking in Latin, the 85-year-old announced his decision during an address at the "Concistory for the canonization of the martyrs of Otranto", a small event held early in the morning.
The decision makes him the first pope to resign since the Middle Ages, making him the last piece to fall from DC Comic's original regime.

"Don't know who he thinks he's fooling," said The Bass, a correspondent on the scene. "Everyone knows the dude was fired."

Figured I'd beat LOLtron to it.

The Rev. Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, said that the pope would continue to carry out his duties until Feb. 28 and that a successor could be elected by Easter, which falls on March 31. But, he added, the timing for an election of a new pope is “not an announcement, it’s a hypothesis.”

Shipping delay possible.

"Dan and the boys are just pissing me off, "said Benedict " The Didiocracy has just gotten too far out of hand. They took away Superman's underwear, and won't allow Stephanie Brown in any of their books. This is an outrage"

In the morning hours following the announcement of Pope Benedict XVI's resignation, DC Comics announced the next stage of its relevancy initiative: After Preacher: Priest. Published under the Vertigo banner, the series is to focus on Jessie Custer's move to the Catholic Church and the new adventures that follow, including the gaining of a new power called "The Hand of God"--the ability to continuously restore virginity to prepubescent boys with a single touch--and a new partner, an vampire fetus conceived out of the wedlock union of DC fans and their incestuous love of the past.

The new series will be written by Howard Mackie, with art by Frank Miller.

Should've admitted he wasn't up to the job before he got a bunch of people killed.

Old guy probably couldn't handle the endless barrage of Nacireman's requests that since the Legion reboot is an abortion the Church should take a stand in the matter :P
