Yep. Ennis wrote it like a kid who just learned to cuss and figured if he put a lot of fucks and a lot of offensive goofy perverted crap in there it would be "cutting edge mature" material. No it was just shit. Couple decent ideas here and there but overall it sucked.

Mediocre art too.

I can't judge the whole series, but I tried to get into it and couldn't myself.

I liked it alot and my wife (who's only read two series in her life) loved it.

Yea - it was a permission to curse fest but overall it was a lot of fun. Anytime you put God, vampires, arse-faces, Jesus's great (x500) grandson and true love in a room together- you know it'll be a blast.

However, I feel this was the last (the Pro excluded) good thing Ennis did. Ever since then he's been nothing but a shock-writer. How extreme can he go! It gets boring and immature after a short while.

I've only read the first volume, but I just ordered the second, and I plan on reading the whole series--I heard it's awesome, and the first volume was decent.

That's how I felt about Preacher. Shock for shock value. Like the one panel where the perverted rich guy who throws the party and he rides his bike around naked and parks it by sticking the front tire between the butlers ass cheeks. Wow that deep writing! Shock for shocks sake nothing more. Alan Moore probably wrote similar stuff when he was 8.

The worst part was the letters pages though.

I agree whole heartedly. Preacher did NOTHING for me. I struggled to read half of the series.

I thought the first volume was decent as well. After that it went downhill for me. It had some real potential, but for me, it just fell flat.

People who like Preacher are probably the same people who like Jackass.

Preacher is my favorite comic series of all time.
You don't have to like me
You don't have to respect me
But you will LISTEN to me.
