PSN Shocker: Powers to Be First Original TV Show from Sony Playstation Network

The long-in-development Powers adaptation has been picked up by the Playstation Network.

Source: Deadline

A television adaptation of "The Great One" Brian Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers comic has been on-again off-again for years now, but tonight Deadline reported that it's been picked up by someone nobody expected: The Playstation Network. According to the report, this will be a brand new attempt at the project, so all the casting from the FX pilot is probably out the window. They say it's a ten episode order, and the show will be of "premium cable quality" which I guess means it'll have a shitload of boobs.

Powers is a comic about monkey buttsex that comes out once every two months for a year or so and then disappears for two years before being rebooted. No word on whether The Great One's snarky letters column will play a role in the series, but he and Oeming are executive producing, and the show will probably be fucking awesome (though we'll be sure to rip it a new one in our articles because that's what we do).

Deadline has a bunch of crap about the Hollywood types involved in the production, so head over there if you care about that and then come back here and share your thoughts in the comments. Oh, here's this:

Those monkeys, by the way, are the actual characters from Powers. They are immortal.

From the dawn of time they came, buttsexing not so silently, down through the centuries...

I'm hoping they don't start off the series like that...

Yeah, there was an all-monkey issue of Powers (part of a 6 issue origin, 30 or so issues into the first run). The only dialogue was monkey grunts like those shown above.

So, you'll gladly support a programme where a child got murdered, but you'll rip into this?

You people are unbelievable.

Well, the people here love anything Fat Bob does, and they hate Marvel. Powers is published at Marvel so of course we're going to hate this while simultaneously slobbing Bob's knob. It's the way we roll. You know this.

We are still waiting on the Marts quote about Aaron; how is that coming along?

Its just depressing to see that comics fans won't support a tv show about a comics series

Don't be silly - of course they will. Jude wrote a snarky article, but then ALL our articles are snarky. And the Lord of the Monkeys mentioned monkeys, because that's what he does.

Nobody here bashed the Powers show (again, aside from the very well-telegraphed snark in the article). This is just like when you attacked Punchy for 'hating Marvel' after (mis)reading a positive review he wrote: you only see what you want to, but are more than happy to make a knee-jerk reaction.

I have no interest in Arrow or Walking Dead tv series but I liked the comics. I do not feel guilty at all for that.

So, judging by your own logic, you are a staunch supporter of The Walking Dead tv show, right? I mean, it's either that, or a massive hypocrite. That can't be right, can it?
Of course not. You must be a proud supporter of the show.

Do you know how many issues of Powers there is? Do you know how rich and varied the book has been.

And you focus on four or five pages from ONE issue. Sad, really
