And seven Samurai is head and tails better than the cowboy flick.
Seriously though, I love those Kurosawa flicks, I just prefer the other two which I grew up with.

Oh, and the original Dawn of the Dead was way better than the remake.

Should made it clear that I was talking about the 70s version being better than the original 50s one.
The Abel Ferrara version in the 90s sucked and I don't know of any others (TV movies maybe?)

Yeah, as well as a lead who could act and an intelligent script.

The original Dawn of the Dead is better, but the remake is a pretty watchable film.
I also agree that there was nothing wrong with The Departed.
The Thing, The Fog and The Fly were all a bit better than their originals too, at least I enjoyed them more.

Remakes I remember watching over the past few years:

Clash of the Titans
Alice in Wonderland (kinda)
Death Race
The Longest Yard
Dead Zone (TV)
My Bloody Valentine
Halloween

...I'm sure there's more. Don't really remember liking a whole lot of them, but they DID expose me to some classic movies (that were new to me), so that can't be ALL bad, right?

Of course, the ones on the way are the ones that are worrying me. Footloose (w' Zac Efron)? Karate Kid? I dunno about these...

Death Race really did not remake the concept of the original. It was more like a twisted metal movie.

I'm going to see Clash of the Titans tonight after dinner.

It was the first movie my Dad took me too when I was a kid and I fucking loved the original.

I think I had read every book ever published about Greek mythology by the following week.

Most of the recent remakes have sucked, but there have been a few good ones. If all else fails, I can always go back and watch the original versions.

I would totally go see a remake of "Manos" The Hands of Fate.
