I've run a couple Rifts campaigns. MDC sucks for trying to run any kind of scaled setting. There's just no mid-range threat. The idea kicks all kinds of ass, but Palladium's ruleset is just way too clunky to pull it off.

Mutants and Masterminds provides a much better system for mixing genres, and allows for total scaling.

Palladium needs a massive overhaul of their base gaming system. Rifts especially, everyone I know who games calls it the most broken system ever.

These days, I only get to play PC and console RPGs. Mass Effect was awesome. I played through 4 or 5 times to get all the achievements. I just started Fallout 3. I've never finished an Elder Scrolls game, so I've got some concerns about finishing this one, too, but I think the overall world is smaller, with fewer distractions/side quests.

I enjoyed the first Fable a lot, and Fable 2 was on sale, so I almost bought that last night. I'm more fantasy minded than Sci Fi/PA, but Fallout 3 has just gotten so many good reviews, and I like actual dialogue over the system Fable uses.

Agreed.

Great concepts, but no executed well. Last book I picked up was Scraypers I beleive.

Actually, there was another Superhero one. For the life of me, I can't remember it.

I played WoW for about 18 months. It's a fun game. I came from Everquest and EQ2, and found the world and quest system to be far better than what EQ offered.

At the same time EQ was where I met Vicki, so I don't think anything will ever pass EQ by in terms of fondness.

We played a few other MMOs along the way, but really only enjoyed Lord of the Rings MMO. I still miss that one. I think it combined the best of all the prior MMOs, and adding in the Tolkien license helps out a ton.

All my old WoW buddies have switched to Warhammer Online. I haven't tried it though.

Hmm, I think I'm limited because I game on a Macbook Pro. Unless I install Parallels and Windows on my machine, and I really don't want to do that. That's just asking for a headache.

I don't know how much was changed in 2nd ed, because I was out of gaming by the time that was released. But a lot of people on the boards really seem to like it. These days, I don't much keep up with the rules changes and what-not, so I'm not sure how much impact 4th ed D&D will have on M&M through the Open Source licensing.

But if you can find the 1st ed rules in a bargain bin, it's a totally serviceable product, with a good deal of supplement material still around for it. Even more supplement material for 2nd ed, but the overwhelming majority of it is totally optional.

Hmn sounds good. Maybe I will try to find it to see if I can't get jazzed about something. What I liked about Feng Shui is how loose it played. Too loose for a lot of people though. :( Lotta drama though. :)

2e has a supplement coming, "Mecha & Manga"... sounds interesting. Always wanted to try something in the Kamen Rider vein.

Too bad about the Open Gaming License. I think Wizards really screwed the pooch on that one. :(

Kamen Rider always sounded like a great concept, but I think I'm rather more interested by Kekko Kamen...

Ah Mekton. Never did get to play it but bought the books. Really looked like fun. Liked the Interlock system and wanted to try that. TFOS looked fun too.

Seemed like more people were interested in DP9's mecha stuff though. Nice looking, but it never really grabbed me that much.

RTal also made Castle Falkenstein which looked really fun too.

That might be one of those that may be more fun to role play with a woman than play at a tabletop with a bunch of sweaty guys.

Hmn... Speaking of Kekko, Cutie Honey, Silene, and Devilman Lady would also make for some fun real life (with wimmenz) role play.

The DP9 line had the minis skirmish game driving it, but the RPG rules were very meh. It was servicable enough, but Mekton from the start was built around the concept of building not just your own character, but also your own mechs, and from any genre/style/size. The mech building rules for Mekton were very nice, and there really wasn't any effort made to equate them in scale with the human characters. So it avoided the Palladium SDC/MDC quagmire. If you were unfortunate enough to get blasted by a mecha, you were just dead.

I picked up some of the Rtal Cyberpunk stuff to add into the after Rimfire portion of that campaign, but the campaign died not too long after.
